First of all I am looking for someone who owns both b.i.s rod and protector set opinion. Not some one who owns classic or henkei. But does it look really bad or passable? And does it damage the rub sign? Would like pics too if you have them. I am just thinking of getting protector for my b.i.s rod and if it a good idea. Thanks
It's passable I suppose. The colors are definitely made for the darker Henkei and Classics versions. The worst offener is the spoiler and the extentions that come with the set...BiS Roddy's spoiler is bright yellow and the extensions are orange like Classics Roddy's.
I love protector. He's a really good toy. But I would not put him on the BiS Rodimus. Maybe save up another $82 and buy a classics Rodimus later? Or who knows, maybe they'll release a recolor of protector in BiS colors.
The set looks okay on BIS Rodimus. However I would really recommend using the chromed spoiler set that comes with sidearm if you have it.
I have protector with BiS roddy and in bot mode it's fine. Trailer mode, not such a good idea. Don't let that stop you though, it's an awesome set and you shouldnt pass it up!
I suppose we still don't know if there will be a Protector set to match BiS Hot Rod... In the event that there won't be one, would it be a good idea to order the "normal" Protector sometime soon?
The only problem I see on the set is the colored blue windows. I am doing BiS with this set. Looks fine in the bot form to me. Don't see any major issues with it at all.
I would recommend it. I am always skeptical about these "third party" or unlicensed products, but this is a really nice set. If you are patient you can eventually pick up a Classics Hot Rod at a decent price.
Are you NUTS? Who's got $82 to spend to make sure the colors are just so? I have my BiS Rodimus in Protector armor and it looks fine. In fact, the yellow spoiler is superior in a way because it works better with the bling you get with Sidearm. And if you're not getting Sidearm...get Sidearm. I don't know how you damage rubsigns. I wound up moving the rubsign down the hood, it was crooked and partly visible under the armor.
Hey, if a person is well enough off financially to be buying an $82 upgrade, they can spend that on the toy it was meant to upgrade. That's all I'm saying. Then give Sidearm to BiS Rodimus so he can be Targetmaster Hot Rod along side color matched Rodimus Prime.
Considering you can buy Protector for the same amount of money as Classics/Henkei Rodimus, I think I can stand a brighter shade of red.
I know this thread is a few weeks old, but I finally got a Classics Rodimus to take the place of the Challenge at Cybertron version I had and now I want to throw the bright red one in the trash. I was perfectly ok with the way it looked in Protector's bot mode, but the space camper mode just doesn't work with the bright red car. I'm really glad I spent the few extra bucks to get the one I wanted (and it was no where near $80). I like the Protector set even more now.
I really don't understand those that have such distaste for the BiS Rodimus with Protector armor. Part of me thinks it's simply to justify or maintain the current market value of Classics Rodimus. I finally received my Protector and Sidearm from Captured Prey yesterday (awesome service and shipping, btw) and I couldn't be happier with how it looks. The two shades of yellow on Protector's chest match perfectly with the Protector wings over BiS Rodimus's yellow spoiler. And while in robot mode, the different shades of red compliment each other very well. If you only have BiS Rodimus and are considering the Protector upgrade, I cannot recommend it enough.
I like Classics Hot Rod better because it matches the trailer and the BiS version doesn't. It has nothing to do with trying to keep aftermarket prices up.
I agree that the colors do not match in Winnebago mode but how many of us are buying the Protector upgrade to not display it in robot mode?
For me, it's just a question of priorities. I find FP's upgrades themselves to be high-quality, well-conceived, and worth their asking price. I do not like that the figures themselves shoot up in value. I know it's unavoidable, but that doesn't mean I'm eager to pay it. Got burned for about $30 on RotF Bruticus because I had no idea until the color FP pics came out that the thing was worth getting. In my case, in the year of Protector and the (next) year of Hasbro MP Rodimus, my "Rodimus budget" is already stretched far beyond what I could have predicted. I deem the upgrade itself worth it. However I would have just lived without if the figure, which is only ok, couldn't have been had for a pittance. If I held out for Classics Rodimus, for the sake of a color difference that I am barely able to see (no joke, my vision's a bit rubbish), I would have paid as much as I did for the whole shebang of Bruticus. Unless I hunted around for a great deal, which I was not inclined to do. (Incidentally, a lucky deal is the only reason I have City Commander. Going by market prices I basically got Classics Ultra Magnus for free.) Sorry if I sound too judgmental, but I spend enough on my Transformers as it is without paying $50 or more for a shade of red and a second copy of a mediocre toy. Now go pick on the people who put FP's upgrade on a cobbled-together mix-and-match Energon Bruticus, and leave us Battle in Space Rodimus fans alone!
The more I look at Protector, there's actually two shades of red on the chest piece. Ironically enough, the lighter shade matches the BiS Roddy's color. It's almost as if FP made these color choices to match all three releases.
