Paramount's 'Transformers' Marketing: From Oreo to Uber Paramount Worldwide Marketing Partnerships Executive VP LeAnn Stables talks about the promotions in AoE, what is interesting, if I have understood this correctly, is that the brands and companies which were featured in AoE paid close to $200 Million to Paramount for being featured in the movie. That is close to the entire budget of AoE. EDIT; It MIGHT have covered all of AoE's budget since the $200 Million being talked about is just 'Marketing Value' and not any grosses or nets.
It was a smart move, and unlike most people, it didnt' bother me. In fact, I didn't even notice them. As for those whom were bothered by them, why were they? Can't these companies and their products exist in the fictional Transformers world? Can't the Human characters be seen enjoying these products just as people do in real life? Jeez, people will complain about anything.
Ditto. I only noticed the Bud Light and Oreo cameos. I nonetheless don't understand why everyone is so butthurt. Besides, all the money these companies gave the film explains how the budget turned out to be much more than originaly anticipated.
Here's what I noticed-- 1. Oreo bot at KSI HQ in Chicago 2. Goodyear tire truck 3. Victoria's Secret bus 4. Waste Management garbage truck 5. Bud Light truck annihilation 6. All the Hasbro products 7. Chevrolet vehicles 8. Daimler products: OP and Galvatron
When a Transformers movie approaches the levels of product placement obnoxiousness as that one Will Smith flick, I will actually bother worrying about this kind of thing. And the MLP bit made me laugh really hard, because you know someone in that position of responsibility really would actually do that. Until then, real world companies exist and spotting familiar things here and there makes it feel like something that could really happen, allowing us to connect a little more with the world on-screen. As for how much they got for those placements? Good. Damn good. Very smart of them to use that to cover most of their budget, if that is indeed true. And it sure gave us a hell of a lot more to look at and let them bring the robots and their side of things to the forefront more often than before. Which is what most of us wanted in a live-action TF movie, yes? Yes. Just fine by me.
