You might be flippant about it, but language deteriorates if people keep making up words or use words incorrectly.

...No, that's how language evolves? Like, if you actually look at the histories of languages, it's defined by people making up words or using existing ones """incorrectly"""???
EDIT: yes in this case the misuse of "scam" is not conducive to language evolution or anything, it was just intentional misuse for the sake of accusation, I just think it's important to keep in mind that doesn't mean all "misuse" is detrimental

While you both have perfectly cromulent views on this, @slochmoeller’s use of the word “scam” does nothing to embiggen its meaning.

I hate to be a stickler (okay, not really) but embiggen was actually added to the US dictionary. We're still waiting on cromulent

I didn\'t know one of Galvatron\'s henchmen was named Sweep. That\'s both hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

True. There is a difference between the general evolution of language thing I was talking about and something like slochmoeller's misuse for purposes of accusation.
Not one henchman, it's all of the Scourge lookalikes that are called the Sweeps.

Sorry, thought we were going for made up words that hadn't entered the language

Fingers crossed that the Sweeps are a two-pack. Or a three-pack. I already have Kingdom Cyclonus and SS86 Scourge... loving them.

Given the listing is for a normal single Voyager figure, I think it's just a singlepacked Sweep.

No worries. I was going for made made-up words that had and hadn’t made it into the language, plus a pop culture reference to tie it all together.

Couldn’t pass up such a perfect opportunity to use both of those made-up words. :D

Of course, all words were made-up at some point. It’s the changing of the meaning of words that needs to be minded carefully.

I'm not sure carefully minding the changing of meanings of words on a large scale is necessarily even possible, let alone a good idea; I think it's more just about what a large number of people agree upon as the meaning of a thing, whether anyone has objections or not. In something like the case of "scam" as it was used here, I think it probably wouldn't even get started on moving the word "scam" in a new direction because most people would agree that this blatantly doesn't even come close to anything that could reasonably be balled a scam under current definitions.

Yeah, I agree with what you say about minding the change of meanings. Language and culture will change over time, just like anything.

As for a post like that changing the meaning of “scam”, that’s something that very well could happen in today’s world. After all, look what this fandom has done to the term “third party”. ;)

Not really serious here (but perhaps I should be): since they are coming out with a Sweep, does this mean that Cyclonus will get his Armada?

Nice! The movie crew getting completed and a few "plug the holes" next year in the 84-87 characters and I am more than ready to move on to something new. Kingdom giving us Beast Wars needs to be continued with a few of the off screen characters like Polar Claw and Mosquito. WE NEED TERRORSAUR AND INFERNO AND QUICKSTRIKE of course! Rumor said Tarantulas is in the works....yes!

I always remember that one line from Infinity War I think where Drax says "that's a made up word!" and Thor shoots straight back with "all words are made up"

On a stream, someone at Hasbro made a comment (joke?) to that effect about a purple Cyclonus redeco as the Armada. If Sweeps are getting a unique deco... maaaaaaaybe?

I would say more than maybe - - though maybe not called Armada. If the rumored toy colored or selects Galvatron is called Marvel Galvatron, then a Marvel Cyclonus and Scourge could function in the same way (be more like toy colors). Following the comment/joke, then a Sweep could be a Marvel/Toy colored Scourge....

Yeah a Marvel colored Scourge and Cyclonus would be great! I'd go for those or for a reformatting version of the duo!
