This is so awesome and professional. props to George Evangelista
I was just commenting on it on IG and I love it but the face is still too human for my liking. Can tell he used some Lockdown in there but the face looks like Optimus Primal to me. Very Gorilla-like.
We could've gotten this and instead we get a generic looking Bot.
Yeah...the face is too human look...the helmet is ok..if the face look like Sideswipe or Jolt would be perfect.
WOW!!! Definitely diggin' this! I also saw a picture of a Red Centenario (may have been a concept car) here: lamborghini centenario lp770 4 - Google Search
It's the Aventador J Concept
I definitely like it more than the current movie version of Hot Rod...but then I also think the current movie version of Hot Rod has a good enough design for this particular franchise.
Looks great other than the face imo. The face, like tonyformer said, is wayyy too human. I can tell he took inspiration from Lockdown. Honestly this looks like a con rather than a bot due to the face just looking like that
This fan art proves how popular Lockdowns design impacted many.
The concepts Vitaly Bulgarov shared on his site were all unfinished. I would love to know who helped finish the final model.
The model of HotRod that Bay shared on his Twitter account was very Lockdown inspired also. But I'm not convinced it's final in any way.
George Evangelista has without a doubt created a lot of stellar work. But his Hot Rod piece is too human for me. His appearance is also too intimidating for an Autobot.
However, I'm sure a lot of old fans and new fans alike will appreciate this George's version of HotRod.
It's a step up, I'll give it that.
I'd probably like the face to have less texture, make look a bit younger and fresher, as it is it's more like Rodimus Prime.
But yeah very well made and a very nice mashup of G1 and MV styles!
If Hot Rod does become Rodimus in the movie universe later on I can see him taking on elements of this as an upgrade.
His face and physique remind me of Caesar from the Apes films.
That fan art is pretty cool.
Hot Rod is Bumblebee's little bro in these films, because nowadays Bee is the new Rodimus Prime and lieutenant to Optimus.
Hot Rod and Bee are not real brothers. They are Brothers in Arms. Big difference. Just means they are very close friends and "like brothers". Much like Cap America and Bucky in the MCU.
Yeah I agree, the face is too human.
I never really got the problem with the AOE era faces. Transformers traditionally had humanoid faces, especially toward the end of G1.
I don't really know how you could get a believable G1 esque live action Rodimus, without having that kind of face, and even if you don't care about G1, this AOE style face is still great. I mean look at the thing that's using Hot Rods name in the next movie. Surely you don't prefer that? (i'm talking purely aesthetics, his character might be spot on for all i know!)
I know the movies have chucked out some fun interesting face designs, but for every Bonecrusher there's always a bumblebee!
I guess we all have our own priorities when it comes to what a real world cybertronian should look like! Till all are one!
That was also an 80's cartoon. You can't expect to try the same thing in a live action movie and get the same results. Whilehe body design is unbelievably awesome (takes me back to the body designs in the 1st 3 films) hi face kinda looks like he belongs of the Apes instead of Transformers.
Yeah that's fair, but I think it's a way to bring that 80's style into the present!
And yeah he does look a bit Optimus Primal, but there are other apes you could use as a base to make your transformers more humanoid... humans for example!
Given the right design, I would could see the 80's style incorporated into the new films! I just wasn't a fan of making them "too human." They didn't look like transformers in AOE. They looked liked metal people wearing something out of a fashion show on LSD.
