Primus and Unicron

    So would Primus have been unable to defeat him himself then? I (think I) remember reading that he did it because he was losing, and then again that they were even, but their battle threatened existence.

    From what I remember of Marvel G1, Primus was in too much of a dormant state to physically take on Unicron and past on the task of defeating him to his children. From that continuity, Prima was the first Transformer, and the first to bear the Matrix of Leadership, and following from him was Prime Nova, Sentinel Prime and then Optimus Prime who would carry out the task. Although I believe using the Matrix killed Primus as well.

    At least in the Marvel canon, Primus created the Transformers to permanently destroy Unicron and to let life carry on after him. Why he created the Liege Maximo after Prima if he wanted the best for his children is another can of worms.
