There's got to be a thread for this, but I can't find it. I don't really mind this since I think it's funny, but it's crazy how every time Prime is knocked around, there was some need to make the scenes that are already so visually dynamic even more extreme by jamming Prime's mouth full of sounds or dialogue that are strange for the character For the bravest and toughest robot around, he sure screams "NOOO!" a lot whenever he takes a hit. He's like Vader that way. I'm interpreting "Sentinel Please!" as a variation on "Nooo!" It even made his forest death rather cheesy and undignified, although you could argue that it was because he was concerned with Sam's safety at that moment. But the strangest thing is when he gets knocked down by Shockwave in Chernobyl. When the Blu-Ray comes out, or if you've got a clip at home, close your eyes during this part. The sound he makes is so effing strange!! It sounds like the Tazmanian devil, only 10 times more insane. That's it. Not complaining, it's just an observation and I'm sure it has to do with the way the film's try to pack as much audio and visual stimulation into every moment, which is pretty awesome but also silly at times. I probably find it odd mostly because Cullen's voice is so familiar to me after all these years.
Yeah, what was up with that scene? Is that Primes Cybertronian? Or did the Driller made him shit bricks and he didn't make any sense at all? For all we know Optimus could have cursed in Cybertronian.
I would love for the BluRay disc to have the behind the scenes footage of Peter Cullen recording the voice-over for that very scene. What was going on in the studio when he made that sound byte? It sounds so strange, yet funny.
I really do wish that they'd release recorded footage of the voice actors in the studio recording voices for their respective characters. Alas, it'll never come to be.
Peter Cullen was sitting in the breakroom and Michael Bay came up to him showing him a hot picture of Rosie Huntington Whitley. Thats where that sound came from.
Yes he is verbal while fighting but I like it because it makes it seem more real, like he's really trying to fight his hardest to stop his enemy's, and What else would he have said besides No! this is a bad example but when I play video games online and I get shot in the back out of no where the first thing I say is NO! I think it's an Automatic reaction. The scene with the Driller was funny sounding This I would Love to see the Behind the scene Of this
To be fair with him, The Fallen, Megatron and Sentinel aren't that silent in battle either. The Fallen: "PRRIIIME! PREPARE TO JOIN YOUR BROTHERS!", "NOW I CLAIM YOUR SUN!". Megatron: "Humans don't deserve to live!", "Die with them, JOIN THEM IN EXTINCTION!" *boom*, "There is another source of Energon on Earth!", "Isn't the fate of our race worth of a single human life?", "STTAARRSCREAM!", "RUUARGH!", "THIS! IS! MY! PLANET!". Sentinel Prime: "It's of no use, I'll re-trigger the Pillars!", "I bring you Cybertron, YOUR HOME, and yet you choose humanity!", "Always the bravest of us, but you could never make the hard decisions!", "We were Gods back on Cybertron, but on this planet THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE." And besides, Optimus mainly only shouts stuff in RESPONSE to Hannibal Lectures from the villains.
Prime does kinda remind one of a three-year-old, running around while brashly destroying things and yelling, then crying once he gets his new toy caught in some cables.
I know there are a few clips online of voice actors form the 1st movie on YouTube somewhere. I think it showed Hugo Weaving, Jess Harnell, Peter Cullen, Robert Foxworth, and Jazz. As for the topic of Prime talking to much or the whole "noooo" situation. My guess is that when he is shot by Megatron in ROTF, his nooo is a remark of Earth being destroyed, or what have you. I have noticed alot of robots, not just Prime talk in battle. Especially that dang Bonecrusher.
This! And am I the only one who thinks all the extra sounds from Prime made him seem more "down to earth" and less invincible, which is a good thing.
Maybe Peter Cullen was goofing around and making weird noises with his Optimus voice, and it got recorded, and the editor put it in as a joke, wondering if Michael Bay would notice it. But yeah, I had quite a bit of trouble not bursting into laughter when he started making his noises during the Chernobyl scene.
I can just picture it now: You're at the line-up at a grocery store and your phone rings. *GRAAHBAWARBARBEL BLEHG BLARGHWARGHER!* ... *GRAAHBAWARBARBEL BLEHG BLARGHWARGHER!* ... *GRAAHBAWARBARBEL BLEHG BLARGHWARGHER!* ... "Aren't you going to answer your pho-?" "QUIET! I'm listening to Peter Cullen!"
Ha! I like this answer and I've decided that it's fact. OR! Ukraine can get pretty cold, right? His tongue may have stuck to the inside of his mouthplate. I've decided that this is also fact. Either way it's really weird. A fun thing to imagine is that sound coming out of Eeyore's mouth. The "Nooo!" and similar lines are extra funny to me because he says such cold blooded things before his violent rampages, but as soon as his killing sprees are interrupted for a moment, he want's nothing to do with fighting. Prime follows the "No Backsies" rule of combat. The theory I'm making up right this second is that "Nooo!" isn't because he's hurt or worried for the lives of himself or others. He screams because there are so many heads and faces to be ripped off and collected. It's his favorite hobby, so getting knocked down or injured ruins his fun. I LOVE movie Prime.
