Well in the first movie everyone knows he took off Bonecrushers head.
Later in the movie when Megatron and Prime are wrestling Megatron "Humans don't deserve to live" And prime says "They deserve to choose for themselves!"

When Prime is saying that you see him pushing Megatrons head up TRYING TO TAKE IT OFF!

In ROTF Doesn't he take Demolishors head off aswell?

    Prime doesn't like heads?

Does anyone know anymore moments where Prime trys to take off a Cons head?

Because this Optimus Prime doesn't wanna have to deal with more Galvatrons.

In all seriousness though- if Frenzy is any indication- it seems some Transformers can live for some period of time or be restored if it's head is intact. It's possible that he's just not taking any chances.

    Note I said SOME.

    He's experimenting with Headmaster technology.

Phase 1: Rip off the head!
    Phase 2: ???
    Phase 3: Profit.

Don't forget that comic cover where prime looks poised to decapitate Megatron :].

    Also (spoilers from RoTF),

Bumblebee apparently decapitates Scrapper, so Prime's obviously had quite an influence on his troops.

Good guys don't generally decapitate the baddies - they kill them 'cleanly' or else have them fall prey to their own evilness. The fact that Prime seems really keen on decapitation is a little macabre, but then again, they're giant robots, so they can get away with it :p .

Give the guy a break, he has giant heated blades that he can pop outta his arms, only natural that he's gonna want to get a few decapitations in. ;)

Movie Prime is just a hardcore badass like that.

You know, when he's not getting his ass handed to him, though, "getting his ass handed to him" is very Prime'ish behavior as well.

Primes like Rocky Balboa, he takes a severe beating on purpose, it psyches him up to bring on the Whup Ass!

Actually, it shows not only skill, but intimidation. William Wallace was renowned for beheading his enemies with his Claymore.
