Here's a mod I came up with. I know not everyone is in love with the doors on Bulk's chest, so I came up with this. There are two stages to this mod. The first one makes the doors into a butt plate. The second makes them into hip armor.
    Stage 1
The first thing you should do before working on Bulkhead is pop off his rear tires/ wings and his doors. The front doors are attached by ball joints beneath his front window. It's a good idea to lay him on a paper towel while you work, so you don't scratch up.

Start by drilling a hole into the side of the ball joint housing.

Using a hobby knife, cut out the material above it and notch out around it, so there's a cone shape leading into it. I angled mine towards the rear.

Be careful and only cut a little bit at at time, so that you don't open it up too much to for the cup to grab the ball of the joint.
The hole should reach down to the bottom of the cup, so that the arms holding the door can swing down 90 degrees.
This should let you swing the doors down over his butt.

The rest of his transformation is the same. The only thing that is affected is that the trunk no longer pegs into his butt. As it works out, the parts still sort of click together on mine.

    Stage 2
The next thing I did was to snip the arms holding the doors in two where they angle and make them into a swivel with a pin. For the pins, I used some tiny tacks that I found in my parts bin. I think that they came from a frame hanging hardware set.
I drilled out some holes where I wanted the pins to go before I cut the parts. I then leveled off the outer surface so the pins could sit flat.

This lets the doors hug his sides, as the back transforms normally.

Even if you don't think this is the right look for Bulk, this is probably a good first step in using him as the base for a Trailbreaker or Roadbuster custom.
    What do you think?

Here's a detail of the tacks I used for pins. I don't remember exactly where they came from, but that's what a parts bin is for. I just sorted all of my little screws and bits (or all that I could find) into this little number I found at a craft store. They sell it as a Bead Organizer. It's double-plus useful.

While it's a good mod overall, it makes Bulkhead look too skinny. This mod would work if you were creating a new character from the mold..
