OK, I've been hearing this so many times, that I just had to say it. I have no idea how people can assume that Optimus Prime and Megatron are brothers. They're not literaly brothers, they're Cybertronia brothers. Ya know, like "All wars are civil wars because all men are brothers"?

All thoughts are welcome.

 

I don't know about that...

I say 'yeah we're bros' to alot of my friends, but let's say figuratively If I was Prime, and my mortal enemy was Megs, i wouldn't go saying.. "sorry I had to kill you, brother..."

 

I think the whole point Prime was trying to make was how awful it was to kill a fellow Cybertronian. I'd imagine that Prime especially had some form of respect and admiration for him.

 

Maybe there's a 3nd Brother named Ultra Magnus.

 

Assume? Who said we were assuming? And how are you so sure that 'brother' was meant in the metaphorical sense, rather than the literal? No offence meant, but I can't see Prime calling Megs a 'brother' and feeling sorry just 'cause he's a fellow Cybertronian.

Besides, seing as how in the Autobots DS game that Megsy killed their father, it would make sense for their to be literal brothers in the Movie universe, so Prime and Megs would logically be bros.

But hey, everyone's got their own opinion. I ain't tryin' to ram mine down your throat (that requires being able to reach through the internet - I'm still workin' on that bit  ), just voicing mine and you voiced yours.

 

Read the prequel material.
It's stated that Prime and Megs ruled Cybertron together.
Prime was the political leader and Megs was the millitary/security leader.
Megs started a rogue faction behind Primes back with the intent of taking over Cybertron.
So when he refers to Megs as "brother" after he kills him, he is refering to the fact that they were both the leaders of Cybertron. "Brothers in Arms" as it were.

 

They're robots, machines. Family-like labels can only refer to them in non-literal terms. There is no biology to be had.

 

He might have meant Brother collectively, Like they're brothers because they're both Cybertronian

This. No matter what spin you try and put on it, the fact of the matter is they are just robots.

 

Kinda going back to "the Allspark gives them life, the Matrix gives them a soul" idea, I'm thinking that it after the Allspark gave them sparks, the will of the Matrix was to make Optimus and Megatron to be "biological" brothers, so to speak.

 

I'm sorry, why is this question even up for debate?
We've literaly been told by the movieverse people why he made that statement of "brother".

As I recall, Roberto said it was up to our interperatation as how we took the line of dialogue. The games, novelisation, comics ect were based upon his and Alex's earlier scripts which evidently made more references to them being brothers.

In the Autobots game for the Nintendo DS, Megatron killed their 'father'.



Besides, Sunstreaker and Sideswipe have been brothers for 24 years of Transformers, and most people never questioned it. I don't see why people are getting so bent out of shape over this.

 

I agree with the idea that it goes back to them both being cybertronian. Also, remember that Megs betrayed them, so for a while they were probably friends...along the lines of Magneto and Xavier in X-Men. After all, Magneto chewed out Pyro for speaking ill of Charles after Phoenix killed him. Its still possible to be enemies with someone and still have some sense of their worth as a living being.

I thought this was mentioned in the novel? Although, considering this is an alternate universe.... perhaps Prime and Megatron are brothers in this particular universe.

Nothing is being spinned around, and second of all they're more than just "robots", they're living sentient beings capable of many things beyond our imagination... this was even indicated in G1. Why can't some people just share an open mind to an already stated fact about this alien race? The only true reality is, they're aliens that share many similarities with humans and other alien races. Transformers have family units the same way we do obviously, remember Wheelie and his parents? Rattrap mentioning about Arcee being the "great aunt", and in multiple fiction references just shows to prove my point. This is a canon fact.

 

I agree with Ceerad. I think Prime and Megs were meant to be brothers in the sense that they both used to lead Cybertron together before their war begun.

 

They're brothers! They're happy and they're singin' and they're colored! (for all you Wayans fans out there)
