Primal Carnage - Launch Trailer - YouTube Do you like shooters? Do you like Dinosaurs? If you answered yes to at least the second question, then I suggest checking out this game. It's literally a team deathmatch game where one side is made up of human players and the other is made up of dinosaurs. But it's not just one side being melee and strong and the other side being weak but able to use guns. To make things actually interesting, each of the 5 human and 5 dinosaur classes have unique characteristics that make them worth playing. The humans have differences in their weapons (shotguns, flame throwers, sniper rifles) and special equipment (nets, grenades, flares), and I believe all have equivalent health. The dinosaurs on the other hand each move and attack differently (pteranodons (not technically a dinosaur, but who cares in this case) can fly and pick up their prey, raptors lunge, while carnotaurus' ram like a bull) and have different health levels. The environments are fairly open and well suited for the style of game, and overall the game looks quite nice and runs very smoothly. As for the gameplay, there's actually a lot of strategy involved and nif you don't work as a team you will probably lose the majority of the time. It's an incredible feeling though to have a team of 5 raptors pick off a small group of humans in an surprise attack from all sides though. I've had a chance to try out the beta (free with preorder) and can say that this is definitely worth the 15$ price tag. Plus, preorders get a special raptor skin, and free DLC is already in the works. Overall, It's a novel design and actually fun to play, so I'd definitely suggest checking it out. If anyone's interested, Primal Carnage - Indie Multiplayer First Person Shooter is the main website with better descriptions and information than I can provide. Or you could go to twitch and just search for the game to see some video from the beta build. Seriously though, if you like dinosaurs at all you should check this out.
I know someone from here who will love this, and hate it for not been available to download on consoles..
i've played this game before, it was called Turok: Rage Wars. but primal carnage looks interesting. ill give it a try.
I'm not sure how to best say this, but I find "if you like dinosaurs at all you'll love this" to be rather insulting. I love dinosaurs, but mindless deathmatches against humans for some dumb reason is the last thing I'd like to see when I hear "dinosaur." I'd MUCH, much rather have a game like Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis or a better version of that Big Al game the Discovery Channel website had years ago (you basically played as an Allosaurus from the moment of hatching and ate stuff and survived various perils; cool idea, bland game).
That's why I said you should check it out, not you will love this game. Everyone has different tastes and I get that, but nobody is saying you have to love a game just because you like the subject matter here. Directly from the devs there is a story line for this game that has been worked on, but it has been held back in order to ensure the gameplay is actually good (don't want another JP: Trespasser). It may be released later or may be held back since this is a smaller studio making the game. Regarding the gameplay, it might not have a storyline, but it is actually far from mindless. Like I said, you can play randomly, but you will constantly get destroyed in this game. In addition to the different weapon strategies for humans, the individual dinosaurs have some very important characteristics that change gameplay significantly depending on what you are playing as. You just cannot play mindlessly, even with the rex, or you will get taken down fast. Plus, there is a ton of emphasis on teamwork. Raptors can pounce and guarantee a kill, but are vulnerable during the kill and can be interrupted, leading to the need to hunt in packs in order to be effective. As for the two games you noted, I remember trying out the Discovery Channel game and found it to be alright but definitely more of an attempt at education than actual gameplay (which was to be expected of course). Regarding Operation Genesis, it reminded me quite a bit of dinosaur tycoon from back in the dos days.
