Well I had not been sold on the whole idea of the premium line until I saw this guy on the shelf. Oh my god!!! The premium edition makes the original ironhide look like a knock off. I know some people didnt like the changes, such as the frosting and the autobot symbol, but look at that paint.
Eh, it certainly has MORE paint, I don't know that it's necessarily BETTER paint. Those eyes and headlights especially seem like eyesores. The gold and metallic blue/silver on the limbs DOES look nice though. The frosting, at least, looks more muted than the promo pics led us to believe, and does he HAVE the Autobot symbol on the hood? I haven't been able to make it out on any of the pics I've seen so far. I think the best possible combo would be a mix of the two versions. As it is, I don't have any plans to pick this one up.
yeah he has the autobot symbol but because of the style of paint and the shine you can barely see it unless your looking strait down at the truck mode. The headlights dont bother me for some reason. As far as the eyes I'm tempted to get soem q tips and rub off a little of the paint, just enough to let the details through
Yeah, the eyes wouldn't bug me so much if they didn't look like giant bug eyes. A wash in that color would've looked nice, I think. And really, the more I look at it, the more it's just that bright, bright blue that bugs me. The rest of the package looks prety nice. I could end up being talked into buying it if I hadn't already jumped feet-first into Animated.
I prefer the original's more subdued paint scheme. The eyes are too bright on the premium, too dull on the regular.
Eh, I actually prefer the way the original looks in comparison. Pass for me. Only two figures from the premium series I want are Barricade (have to replace my current one, the paint flaked on his doors) and Leader Megs (don't own the mold, only character in the movie I don't own yet).
Still does'nt look PREMIUM to me. They could have corrected its eyes using light piping and not painting it ala AllSpark blue. Looking at the comparison pics it seems to be that Hasbro is saving up on paint because no new paint color seems to be visible on the so-called Premium Ironhide. The smokestacks could have been chromed or longer and a rubber tire wont hurt. But hey, Hasbro is out to make more money. I wont be surprised if we see a PLATINUM Series after this PREMIUM series...
I'd take parts from both to make an Ultimate Ironhide. I like the original's windows and signals ... but everything else on the new.
I don't know about the Premium version, but the original Ironhide's eyes ARE light-piped. It's just a very dark blue, so it doesn't work too well unless you have a direct light source. No new paint colors, but there are more paint apps. The number of paint apps affects cost more than number of paint colors, I believe.
I just put some reprolabels on my original and i'm passing. But, If I see it at a store I will grab it.
i dig all the colors except for those eyes they kill it for me...i'll probably pass on this...but i dunno...the rest of him looks pretty cool, maybe a headswap would help alot...
