Okay, so we know from recent events that Predaking is actually very intelligent. But how much? A lot of people are speculating that Predaking will betray the cons. But, what about Shockwave?

He's generally a usurper and Fall of Cybertron (a prequel of Prime) portrays him as 'loyal to Cybertron above all else'. And he states in 'Prey' that Predaking is under HIS control which has always seemed suspicious to me.
Maybe he's going to be the traitor with predaking just following his orders.

So, what do you think? Is Shockwave manipulating everyone and is Predaking his loyal subordinate? Or is even Shockwave unaware of how intellignet his pet is?

    Plausible.

I'd be interested to see if that is the route the show takes, but part of me doubts it.

I'd be very surprised if Shockwave wasn't aware of its intelligence. But what this intelligence means for the show is a different question, and I'm looking foreward to the answer.

I like to think Shockwave is planning on usurping Megs. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have given Predaking his intelligence and ability to learn.

Interesting theory. Isn't the next episode supposed to have Megatron doubting Project Predacon? And why is Shockwave not revealing anything about what's going on in his lab? And I believe it was Megatron's fault Cybertron became a barren planet, which Shockwave must hate since he was so attached to the planet in the video games. That'd be a reason for him to throw over Megatron.

As for Predaking, I suppose he's going to find out that his species will return to be used merely as powerful cronies that are bossed around. Maybe he'll find out how to transform (not sure how but I believe that he will) and try to bring down everybody and have the Predacons rule.

The promo video released in February:

This may have simply been made to whet fans appetites for the new series, but personally I think it may actually be from the show, and give an idea of what happens. It seems to me that Shockwave returns to his lab to check on his experiments, and is stunned to see that these supposedly stupid brutes have somehow managed to escape - whilst he's hiding behind that pillar, you can imagine him thinking 'how did this happen?', before looking back toward the door and seeing the instigator of the break out, Predaking, emerge, before it suddenly hits him '...could he be more intelligent than I first thought?'

Also, the scene works from an advertising standpoint - I had been wondering, how are the writers going to quickly introduce all these new characters without giving them all cheesy G1-esque introductions where they take it in turns to step forward? This scene manages to avoid that kind of cliché by making those introductions relevant as Twinstrike, Rippersnapper, Hun-Grr, Blight and Ripclaw race past the camera one by one, before the panning shot of Skystalker and their final escape.

Me personally, I feel Shockwave may not quite realise his beast's growing intelligence. I suppose he just figures that the creature is obedient, under his control, and so far unaware of its isolated developments.

It'll be nice to see Mr Logic get shocked when he finds out :lol

Like some others, I believe Shockwave has plans to betray Megatron, but may be underestimating Predaking.

Shockwave is only an usurper in the comics, right? G1 Shockwave was as loyal as they come, as was G1-esque in Transformers Animated. I think this Shockwave too, is as loyal as Soundwave.

Shockwave's Achilles' heel his inability to see the big picture, as it usually results in a colossal f'up. Well, not long until Predacon's Raising begins:p

Yeah I know. Personally I definitely see Shockwave betraying Megatron. But, I think it's a big possibility that he in turn is betrayed by the Predacons

There is nothing to support Shockwave being inclined in any way to betraying Megatron. He's been portrayed as fiercely loyal from start to finish. If they make him turn on Megatron, it'll be completely out of the blue and rather silly.

Predaking, however, has been very heavily hinted to be growing in intelligence and will probably eventually turn on the Decepticons.

I don't think Shockwave will betray Megatron. I just think it's a case of his experiment become more aware. Nothing that's happened so far has given us any sort of indication Shockwave is aware of how intelligent Predaking has become. Maybe soundwave knows since he monitors everything, but he certainly isn't saying anything to anyone not even Megatron.

I think Shockwave is aware of how smart the Predacons get. I think Starscream and Megatron will be the reasons as to why the Predacons would betray the Decepticons. Shockwave would be getting the last laugh somewhere in this.

I think Shockwave has plans to take over, but Predaking might become too powerful to control. Much like the Maximal's test subject in Beast Wars that became Protoform X or later, Rampage.

Shocks may have usurper ideas but I don't think he'll act on them, that's not is cartoon image.

I don't think that Shocks has total control of Predaking because his lab is "off site" so he can't monitor Predaking.

Predaking returned to the ship and started to hunt without being commanded, that should have been a hint to Shocks that Predaking is becoming more self aware of this surroundings.

So, I don't think Shocks really knows what going on with Predaking's advancement.

While I really wish he would betray Megatron and take over, with how this show has portrayed him so far, it doesn't look like it'll happen. I also doubt Shockwave knows of Predaking's intelligence.
