There are a wide variety of potential characters that have been taken from Takara , Takatoku, etc to become g1 characters in the 1980s. Many were chosen and many would be left behind with some gradually appearing in small comic cameos over the years. Today, with the revitalization of the Diaclone Franchise we see new figures of Big Powered and Dia Battles, two mechs who at some point in the 80's were looked at to become transformers but did not meet the requirements that Hasbro wanted.
As I watch reviews on these diaclone figures I try to imagine what they would be like as cybertronians, where their alligances lie and what their colors would be. Men like Bob Budiansky were tasked with figuring at least part of this out with the characters that did get picked, and this is what this thread is about.

I'd love to see all the ones that didn't make the cut added in as characters.

[IMG] This guy looks like he was built to be a Wrecker.

Bonaparte Tulcas...aka...Headcannon...yeah...I imagine him as an original Wrecker...right alongside Roadbuster and Whirl...though it could've been a neat story as well...had he been the founder of a rival sub-faction...perhaps Squadron X...after jealousy from being passed over...whilst his buddies joined the Wreckers...

I imagine ^^ Dropshot would'e been another Autobot Triple-Changer...perhaps another Wrecker...

    Diaclone_Overcharge_and_Rotorbolt.jpg

Overcharge (the Blitzwing redeco) was basically a Quintesson Warrior Drone...Rotorbolt/Fumes/Skyklik...(the Jet-Heli Triple-Changer)...I could see as a Decepticon...loyal to Megatron...and Starscreams aerial rival...no...aerial superior...

the Horse Jet should be an autobot version of Mach Kick, once you think about it you can't unsee it.

ideas about Machine Dragon, the obscure enemy of the Dinobots before they became Grimlock and company? bjbadv.jpg

could we give him a proper robot mode as Megatron's answer to Grimlock or is he a Transorganic weapon of the Quintessons?

Rotorbolt (the jet/helicopter TF) I could see as part of a trio with Blitzwing & Astrotrain, later adding Octane as the fourth wheel of course.

Overcharge as an army of drones used by the Quintessons.

I could see a group of soldiers that served Delta Magnus, who'd I see as Ultra Magnus' brother, containing Spinout, Cordon, Deep Cover, Clamp Down, Tiger Tracks, Lift Ticket, & Burn Out. Maybe as soldiers working with the Wreckers and Elita's forces on Cybertron or as the first Transformers awake on Earth trying to find Optimus Prime's Autobots.
Throw in Exhaust & Loud Pedal, two goons working for Shockwave to act as foils alongside maybe throw in black Ironhide & red Mirage as Decepticons too or Autobots I'll let you decide. But I'd have them led by Hardcase (the flashlight Micro Change). Now that is a series of stories I would love to read.

I thought the Binocular Micro Change guy had been given a name by Fun Pub or Dreamwave but I'd throw him in as one of Galvatron's forces basically replacing the now obsolete Reflector.

black ironhide we can call Cannons and Red Mirage can call Dyno as a separate character
they'd both be autobots on dispatch

I can definitely see him as a autobot guard drone, maybe the Wreckers use them. P3253534.jpg
but can just as easily see him as a human attempt to replicate transformer technology.
Maybe the US military? Maybe the joes?
    cobra??

I remember discussing Dropshot in another thread. I really wish he was a Transformer because there are not a lot of characters who have both beast and vehicle alternate modes and the ones that do exist either end up not having a real robot mode or the "vehicle" is just a beast with vague vehicle parts slapped onto it. We need more triple changers like this.

I think he needs a more interesting color scheme though. The grey jet mode makes me think of Leader-1 from the Go-Bots too much. The other G1 Triplechangers seemed to pull off a kind of color change between their two modes like Blitzwing's mostly tan tank mode in comparison with his mostly purple jet mode. Those I suppose it's really only the Decepticon triple changers who did this...

That said, the cockpit on the chest thing is typically a trait of Decepticon flyers. The Autobot jets mostly end up folding onto their back, except for Skyfire/Jetfire who's "cock" pit is a bit more literal...

That looks like it could be one of the creatures from Dwellers of the Depth that was said to be the Quintesson's early experiments before Transformers. It's like an organic creature that was cybernetically enhanced. It fits the aesthetic of the G1 Transorganics a lot more than a transformer.

Machine Dragon does make a good Transorganic but what if it was intelligent on the level of a scheming villain. just think about it plotting again whoever with David Kaye's voice.

These are some of the pre-TF's that never made it into the mainstream line that I wish had a chance:

Magnum from the same Microman/Microchange line that gave us Megatron and Browning:

I would have loved to see more of the Microman/Microchange figures come into G1. I wish Browning had a release along with Megatron

I always thought that the gun figures could be like this league of Decepticon leaders who had their own teams and stuff.

I'm kind of imagining Magnum as Hearts of Steel Megatron. The actual Hearts of Steel design looks like this.

But given he's a cannon I kinda think that should be Galvatron.

Magnum is missing the signature Megatron arm cannon but the way he transforms looks to be almost identical to Megatron's transformation scheme which is causing him to have nearly the same profile as Megatron.

Big Powered looks like he could be another Autobot Leader along with the likes of Star Saber and Dia Atlas. The original toy actually looks kinda dumb but that updated version makes me wish he was an official Transformer. The Japanese portion of G1 almost seemed like the Autobot's leader got a more elaborate design with each new series. And this dude honestly feels like he could of been next in line after Dia Atlas.

well there is a 300 year gap so it's likely it would be him and then Dia Battles

I think Atlas and Battles could possibly be the same character as Japan seems to have a tendency when upgrading a character and changing their name to keep at least part of the original name. They're both called Dia and look kinda similar so I'm just imagining in a world where Zone was a full series instead of a single episode that like half way threw season 2 Dia Atlas gets "killed" and then comes back a couple episodes later as Dia Battles.
