I don't think cutting a repaint gives them the budget for a new mold. It would be either repaint, or just one less Leader figure.

No, it doesn't but cutting that, yet another, Prime mould would and give us another figure they could repaint/remould into another character.

I'm starting to think we'll get a real rehash of the Sam/Bumblebee story from the first movie, in a misguided attempt to capture what the movie execs think is the "heart" that's been missing or something along those lines.
Well Rodimus has the deluxe form the chest and shoulders from the looks of things, and the Optimus is probably like the original Powermaster Prime, with the deluxe cab folding into a block that forms the chest. Primal, well maybe he's basically a pretender with a monkey suit, but for some reason I feel like I'll be dissappointed if you can just take the deluxe out and have a perfectly fine Optimal Optimus without it. Maybe because I've still got my Optimal Optimus and is holds up pretty well today?
Repaints are cheap? And the bigger and more elaborate toys are a more expensive investment. Though I'm not disagreeing with you at all about this. At the very least it should have been later in the line. Leader Class repaints don't seem to do too well. Heck a nearby Target is still trying to sell three Skywarps (Mark them down already guys!). Maybe they needed more time to work on Primal?

If I can get mine easily, that's a price that I am perfectly willing to let the rest of you pay.

This is why the OpOp head needs to be a headmaster, and come with a very specific alternate head to go in the helmet...

Based on what the Hasbro people have painstakingly described to us regarding GI Joe, a "repaint" DOES indeed take a "slot" for the number of figures they are budgeted for. (NOT saying it would equal the budget for a new mold though.) They can put in any straight-up rereleases as "extra" figures for the year, but if there is a deco change, than it constitutes a "new" figure in the budget for figures they can release.

Obviously I'd be all for it but I'm not considering it super likely as anything other than convention/subscription exclusives and I'm not sure what platforms are left for that sort of thing.

Maybe, if you're lucky, we'll get Star Saber as a deluxe jet + booster unit that can then be redone as Skyhammer. It would mesh ok, I think.

They actually have a colorist to do the different decos who last I looked worked on a contract basis so yes it takes a chunk of change to do recolors.

I think Optimus Primal Deluxe will fill out the chest like Leader Optimus. Or he will be like Rodimus, I doubt he'd be a shell, because that would be much more expensive, than reusing existing deluxe surfaces.

Okay Optimal Optimus will be difficult, he's got four heads to account for.

He wasn't an option. The vote specified the winner would join the ranks of Optimus and Rodimus, so its fair to assume these two were always coming.

I think they were banking on Deathsaurus winning. They really, really pushed him, even putting him in the second round despite losing the first and the leaks that have been correct about literally everything else said that a Deathsaurus Leader Class was in the works. The fact that the toy gimmick of the Matrix upgrading a Leader works perfectly for Optimal Optimus, which literally is a body that was made when Primal held the Matrix, is a very good coincidence!

He wasn't in it. And hey, Ultra Magnus would have been the easy one.

That reminds me that there was actually a Megatron in the fan vote, complete with conceptual character art. I had forgotten all about that.

It was somewhat similar to TR Voyager Megatron, so now I wonder if we do get a Megatron, whether it won't just be a Deluxe G1 Megs inside a Galvatron as some earlier suggested.

If so, we may not get a BW Megs to pair with Primal/OpOp. (If we even get that... still not technically confirmed, so until it is, I'm continuing to avoid disappointment.)
