I picked up Power Girl #1 this week and I gotta say I loved it. I've always had a bit of an affinity towards ole PeeGee and this book felt right. It had a little tongue in cheek humor poking at Karen's rather large erhem, assets but it also had some great action. Robots AND talking Monkeys? Come on what more can you want? I loved that there was some development into Karen's actually career life. Amanda Conner's art is beautiful as ever and Gray/Palmiotti deliever a believable and likable Power Girl.
I will read any book starring Power Girl that's drawn by Amanda Conner. That JSA Classified arc is what made me a DC fan in the first place. The art was, as expected, gorgeous. I'm really glad that we'll be seeing Conner's work on a regular basis. The writing... eh, it was okay. I love Power Girl, but I've yet to see a story about her that's as amazing as that JSA Classified one. She's a fun character, though, and I'll definitely stick around for this book. I do wish they'd cut it out with the boob jokes, though. I know the writers are just trying to lampshade PeeGee's enormous chest, but it comes off as being really immature. I think it would work better if, instead of calling more attention to her chest, they'd just ignore it.
Or reduce it. The joke has gone on long enough, time to let her stand as a character without the ******ed gimmick.
What? I'm sorry I didn't catch that, I was too busy looking at boobies. Seriously though, I thought PG was supposed to get some sort of massive boost in profile in Infinite Crisis, but it pretty much degenerated into booby jokes straight away?
It may be a ******ed gimmick but I find it's part of the character at this point. Her purpose for leaving the hole in her chest as explained in JSA Classified was great, I thought. I think she stands on her own as well. I think she really shined in JSA and her boobs aren't really as obtrusive there.
I got the book as well. I've grown to like her character since Infinite Crisis, and it's cool to see her in her own book. I will definately keep getting it for a while.
