"Post-combiners: Aerial Protection against Power Stunts" I just wanted to do a fun, vehicle-centric action piece. For the subjects, I went with a bunch of characters who used to belong to combiner teams but have gotten non-combining toys in the modern era. It's a surprisingly prevalent trend - I only drew about half of all of them. I suspect that something nasty went down behind the scenes, robbing them of their combining power and decimating their ranks. I don't know what that was, but here we see the survivors are still in action! The main players are: Blades (Universe Legends version) Darkwing (Universe "Darkwind") Hot Spot (Titanium "Hot Zone") Motormaster (Classics "Menasor") And the background dudes are: Dreadwind (Timelines version) Silverbolt (Universe Legends version) Skydive (Universe version) Drag Strip (Universe version) Dead End (Alternators version) The cargo being transferred is... well, something really obscure, but still Transformers-related. It doesn't actually matter to the scene, but I thought it would be fun Easter egg. Comments, crits? - Jackpot
im really digging this pic reminds me of the back of the tf boxes depciting the battles at hand keep up the good work
Give this man a napkin cause someone spilled AWESOMESAUCE all over his art work!!! GREAT concept and excellent execution!
Wow, thanks for all the kind words! Glad people are really enjoying this one. Thank you! When I started experimenting with this non-lineart-centric style, I thought I was making a departure from "traditional" TF art. But the more I do it, the more aware I become of just how much painterly work is already embedded in the franchise. There are tons of storybooks, plus the box-art you mentioned. I've actually had a project in the back of my head for... decades now, I guess, to redraw the crappy late-Pretender and Micromaster battle scenes. But there are so very many, and my brain keeps giving me its own little stories to tell instead. deedleldeedledeedledeet Party on, dude! Thanks! I've recognized for a while that my art overly favors robot modes, which I think gives short shrift to the defining aspect of the franchise. So I was happy to find an idea that not only played up vehicles, but also the grey area between modes. I even left Hot Spot's lower half intentionally vague because I like the notion that he rolled up next to Motormaster and then jumped on him as he transformed. Unfortunately the physics are sketchy because his legs are the front of his fire-truck mode, but still.... Hee hee, I like that - I'll have to remember it. Thank you! I feel like this pic comes closer to "nailing it" than any of the others I've done in this style so far. - Jackpot
For the life of me I still cannot figure out what Darkwing is trying to lift off MotorMaster. But all in all, most excellent piece. BTW, is Blades trying to hook on Darkwing??
