Tonight I found a variant of WFC:Siege Blackjack at the Target in Dickson City, PA.

Yes the head and chest area are one piece from another bot that somehow got painted used and painted like Blackjack.

I got to say, I would hate if I ordered a set online and got the variant, and not get the proper head/chest.

Please be aware that for it to be considered a genuine "variant", more than one singular specimen has to be found in the wild. Otherwise, it's just a one-off manufacturing error.

In the past, things like Transformers: Prime Cyberverse Commander Class Optimus Prime with an unmasked head (which was later officially used for the "Nightwatch Optimus Prime" redeco/retool) have been called "variants", but ultimately amounted to one single item found by one person.

After all, most of us don't consider a toy with two left hands or an unpainted face a "variant" either.

 

I hope this is more widespread like Ramhorn was. I want both versions! Don't let it evade my capture like the masked NuRID Soundwave or be a one-off thing!

Not necessarily. It depends on how the mold layout for Swindler/Blackjack works. If it's just gang-molded alternate parts, with the unused parts being thrown away or recycled, then it'd be as simple as accidentally using and discarding the wrong parts, respectively.

Note how the "variant" has the bottom portion of the helmet crest painted along with the visor. That's because it uses Blackjack's standard paint mask. By contrast, Swindler has the crest completely painted.

Also note how the sides of the visor are unpainted, because Swindler's head is shaped differently.

 

Yes I fully believe that is what happened. They share the same sprue and the wrong portion of the sprue was processed. Now did it happen for an entire run? That’s what I would love to know.

I made this thread to raise awareness so others could be on the lookout. Hopefully the visibility is escalated so more people are mindful on the pegs.

 

It's totally fine to raise awareness. I'd just prefer to be a little more hesitant to claim "variant!" until there are more sightings. There have been alleged "variants" of this variety in the past that never got beyond the first sighting.

I think the only borderline case I'm aware of was Titans Return Chromedome with Takara Legends Chromedome's headmaster figure, which had, like, four sightings total by three different people or so.

You’ll likely get more sightings if you raise awareness. Just be judicious with the wording. Easy enough.
