I read it will be a remold / recolor of CW Leader Ultra Magnus...

Looking at the UM mold, I can see that happening...

 

These guys need new head sculpts. They don't have to be G1 accurate but they should have better faces.

 

Hi-Q or Ginrai whatever he is called on the package either way he will be a white minicon robot that hangs out with Optimus in my eyes.

 

I predict a completely new mould for PM Optimus.

 

Most of the time when a fan says "Powermaster" Optimus Prime, they don't mean a Powermaster for Optimus Prime. They mean G1 Optimus with a super mode trailer.

So if they are calling it "Powermaster" they might mean an Optimus with a super mode... but since it's based on the Leader Magnus mold, it has no non-super mode, which means it's just Optimus on roids. No super mode, no Powermaster.

Of course some small company will come in an make a Ginrai for it if it's missing one.

 

The masters are supposed to have vehicles that turn into animals, a la Buzzsaw.

I am glad,I would much rather have one mode, I always thought supermodes were kind of ridiculous. If you had two modes, one better then the other, with no trade off why would you EVER want to switch between the two?

The Comics seemed to have gone that angle too considering he pretty much stopped using his cab mode after a while.

As for Hi-Q I like the little guy, I am glad he comes with the leader class figure.

 

Oh look, there is Powermaster Optimus Prime's head silhouette! He will be the second Titan Wars leader after Blaster!

 

Is this, like, per-emptively setting up the out people are going to have to complain if Powermaster Prime is an Ultra Magnus retool?

The reason he was called "Powermaster" was because the cab needed Hi-Q to turn into a robot. Just like the other Powermasters. People just remember him as the Super-Mode with the cab combined in a trailer of armor. You could even argue the original PM Prime in folded cab mode acted as the Powermaster core of the trailer super robot.

If they retooled Ultra Magnus, it would be a perfect Powermaster Prime homage. As the trailer would fold up and plug into the chest of a limb/armor robot mode. The only missing step would be the cab having a standalone robot mode. But otherwise he'd be a perfect recreation of the what everybody remembers most of PM Prime.

On top of that, if they really wanted to...they could forgo Hi-Q (or mold it into the chest plate of Robot Mode) and replace Alpha Trion with a smaller version of Prime that could ride inside of the cab *or* turn into a head.

The only thing that'd get closer to that as a Generations PM Prime would be if the released a trailer that coudl turn into limbs for the CW Prime in torso mode.

AND WHY HASN'T ANYBODY DONE THAT?!

 

Well, if it's a Titans Return character, it will be a Titanmaster/Headmaster, and I'd guess the head will turn into High-Q!

 

Somebody posted a pic of Ultra Magnus blown up in a makeshift base mode. I wonder if that was on accident or if Hasbro had planned that far ahead. Magnus even has a helmet that can fold out like Blaster and Galvatron.

There's the fan base mode. Maybe a few tooling changes to give him more platforms. But if they retool Magnus into PM Prime I'd expect something close to that with Hi-Q hanging out.

 

I'm pretty positive that's the direction they'll be going. Hi-Q will not turn into an engine block plugging into PM Optimus' chest. He'll be a Minimus/Alpha Trion remold that sits in the same place they did.

Whatever. Close enough for me, I guess.

 

I want a real trailer for Prime, not a Magnus trailer painted grey...

They definitely planned ahead, not a doubt in my mind.

Because they didn't want you to not buy Powermaster Optimus a year later.

He will get the Godbomber/Apex Armor at some point because there is simply no way any 3P can pass up that big a business opportunity, even if Hasbro skips it..
