I might\'ve been excited for this, if I hadn\'t just gotten my hands on the original mold, and absolutely hated it. Floppy, goofy looking, unsatisfying transformation. I didn\'t expect much from him, but I just say, he might\'ve just been in the top 6 worst figures I got my hands on in 2021. I can\'t be alone on this.
Well, since the original\'s pretty much out of my reach, I\'m definitely grabbing this guy! I\'m so glad hasbro\'s finally putting botcon figures out!
yeah we could get pretty much everyone but Vice Grip and Grizzly-1 of the S1 exclusives Onyx Primal could be retooled from Airazor/Terrorsaur.
We could also get possibly get Apelinq outta Primal, but unless we know for certain that they're passing up doing the Transmetals of everyone other than Megatron, I'd rather not go that route.
Looks great especially with the remolded mutant head. I’m so glad the ‘out there’ stuff like this is getting made, especially with the history behind this particular figure. I’ll pass personally, not for me as I don’t collect extraneous BW. But very happy this exists for those who want it
Looks like the Hastak designers might have been playing a little too much Fallout 3 when updating the mutant head.
I admit I don't know anything about the character since I missed a lot of the BotCon fiction, but this thing looks great! I absolutely love the color choices, the orange/purple parts almost remind me of an organic-mode Rampage, in a way.
They showed this off at the last Pete"s con, supposed to be a exclusive plus whatever build a figure they'll be doing
Yea......not sure that's legit happening. Botcon doesn't have any sort of relationship with Hasbro currently, so the likelihood of them being allowed to use a Hasbro mold is slim to none. Doubly so if you think about the fact that their 1st exclusive is basically a 3p G.I. Joe "competitor" that is also ripping off a Transformers deco. It's more likely that is just a custom that Pete Sinclair is trying to pass off as a real thing like the "canceled" Action Masters Botcon set from the 1st Pete's Robocon.
As much as I don't like Pete, I'm pretty sure that boxset was a legit prototype. And I don't think he ever lied about that Warpath redeco being a mass-produced custom because that could get him in serious legal trouble.
Given Hasbro’s current flat lifeless grey plastic, the new colors look better than if they had attempted to be accurate.
I'm... mixed on this guy. Like OK, the character concept is alright (and nice that they're bringing a BotCon bot back), the deco's really good as well (albeit missing the cool gradient effect on the BotCon figure's stinger). It's the head that breaks it for me. I've got no problem with the mutant head being used here, that design's alright. I just don't like how it looks like he's holding his breath. If they de-emphasized the mouth area, I'd be fine with the head. Still though, this is the SECOND Sandstorm we've gotten that's a Selects release. Something about that's hilarious. *Arachnid
I think they based it off the CG model or some of the comic art because he's more tan-orange in those.
Here or there, that doesn't change the fact that Botcon doesn't currently have a relationship with Hasbro, so they can't use Hasbro molds. It's an entirely unofficial convention at this point, even more so than it was prior to becoming the official convention, because then they at least had a relationship with Hasbro.
What happened between Hasbro and Botcon? They used to do events together before. I’m not really caught up in current events like I should haha.
