Overall, great for those who missed him but the lack of chrome, at least on the headlights.....

    Wow... that looks disgustingly chincy.

While I do want more G1 reissues... there is no point if hasbro doesn't put any love/effort into it.

Isn't making a whole new deco to evoke the original cartoon as much as the mold is capable of putting more love/effort into a toy than just doing a reprint of how it was exactly the same as last time?

Apart from the lack of chrome, I think this holds up well in both modes.

Personally, I wouldn’t call remolding a few parts and then cutting costs everywhere else “putting love into it.” Putting love into it would be remolding those parts and still putting as much quality as they can into everything else, not cheaping out and calling the cheapness “toon accuracy.”

I hope this isn't the only use. I'm gonna need 2 G1 box Walmart versions as well (grumble, grumble, dumps wallet on counter)

I'm not sure that plastic free packaging is really gonna work for how fragile the G1 toys are known to be, so hopefully they wrap the whole toy in that tissue paper they like to use.

For real? Which do you think costs more: putting chrome parts on, or unpainted plastic?

*Yawn* Saying these are cheap and lazy, just because you personally don't like it is, well, cheap and lazy.

Equally, just because you don't like something, doesn't mean no effort or love was put into it by the company that made it or the designers that worked on it. We know for example with retro Hot Rod that at least one of the designers had specifically pushed for an accurate pink deco on a Hot Rod since the SS86 figure, because he cared. For all you know this could be a complete labour of love for the team working on the repaints.

Oh, I have no idea. For all I know, silver plastic costs more than whatever cheap stuff might be under the chrome plus the chrome itself.

I honestly prefer the grey over chrome anyway.

Wow! I didn’t realize until I saw your post that having the opinion that the unpainted plastic looks cheap also makes me “cheap and lazy.” Now I know. Thanks! (Edit for typo.)

Not a fan of the grey instead of chrome, and the lack of a faction symbol on the hood really undermines the toon accuracy. I might bite on clearance, I don’t have a g1 hound in my collection.

That chrome pen might actually work quite well on this Hound since he’s so small. It self-levels and is probably the best chrome pen on the market. (Better than Molotow IMO)

Only problem is it’s damn near impossible to seal. Any clear coat will react with it and turn it a dull silver even after months of curing from my experience. This means the chrome is susceptible to rubbing and dulling from contact, though if you strictly display your reissues this isn’t as much of a concern.

It definitely does not cost more. It’s usually just regular plastic under chrome, usually black (as it’s the best base colour for metallics) or in many cases indeed silver-grey. There’s no conceivable reality where this deco costs more than a chrome-inclusive one.

And if it did then that just makes the omission ridiculous because it would mean they spent more money for the toy to look worse.

So this new Hound lacks chrome, and stickers. But has significant new added paint apps to the winch, thighs, abdomen, calves, feet, forearms, eyes, and shoulder launcher. Plus, added tampos all around (instead of paper stickers).

How exactly is that "cheap and lazy"?
