Astro train in cartoon colors has been done before so it is the likely casemate.

Why do they keep reissuing these knowing they'll shelfwarm and eventually go on sale?

Octane would be nice to have in mint shape. I have a G1 Octane from my childhood and he was always one of my favorite toys. Still have it but all the chrome has worn. I had no idea as a kid that the top of the truck mode could be worn on his arm like a shield as this was not mentioned in the instructions or shown on the box.

That being said it doesn't really hold up as a good figure these days. Astrotrain and Blitzwing are more effective triple changers. The arms hanging out on the side of the truck mode (and under the plane mode) are kinda weak and while G1 has never been great on articulation, I still prefer a figure who can stand upright in robot mode and the design of the legs is terrible as it tends to just fall forward over time. (Not that Astrotrain or Blitzwing are very good at standing in robot mode either -- what is it with triple changes and bad legs?)

Every mass retail reissue I can think of from the past 5 years has gone on sale. I can't think of one that hasn't.

Pretty sure... so were Hot Rod, and Starscream... Though, I am unsure if Soundwave fits the Price Point.

And just about every other partner exclusive(sans Velocitron and Wreckers) sells out on Pulse. Because most of them are all available in much lower quantities as per the Pulse deal of being allowed to carry some.

With the way prices have gone up all over the place, I’m surprised these new ones are “only” $34. I think the last Walmart Starscream from a few years ago was $35…I think Hot Rod was $30. If they can keep prices under control, these reissues could sell pretty well. I passed on a lot of them at MSRP on principle because it just felt like a total money grab (Optimus cab for $50 being the most egregious, IMO). I don’t blame people for waiting for clearance…but these things aren’t going to be sustainable under those circumstances. Hopefully they can find a sweet spot.

the orignal prime has so much chrome that i'm hoping an eventual retro version can be closer to 35 or so, if it's just the cab. i'd like if they put the trailer with it too

    My two cents...

Even though he's yet to be officially reissued (and since the original mold(s) is/are damaged/stolen, based on various reports), my bet is still on Sunstreaker being the wavemate. He was reissued as a knockoff so the means should exist to repair or recreate the molds if Hasbro was inclined.

His yellow could be slightly changed to give it a more orangy feel and the black can be done in a dark grey (much like MP Trailbreaker).

Since he and Hound have 2 "blink it and miss" scenes together during the '86 movie, it would be cool if the boxes' artwork formed a backdrop of Optimus' ship docked at Autobot City.

    Wishful thinking, I know lol...

Agreed, I can only speak from my own experience, but Reissues tend to shelfwarm even back when they were still relevant in the early 2000s. While, they still tend to sell out in Collector Toy Shops, they do not seem to do so well at Retail. I remember seeing boxes of Takara Stepper and Insections going on Clearance; heck, even freaking Sunstorm!!! Maybe it is just my Country though...

I always thought that most of those KO figures of the missing G1 figures were probably the original molds that were stolen from whatever warehouse they were stored in. It’s just too much of a coincidence that Mirage, Sunstreaker and Wheeljack were never reissued by Hasbro or TT while so many others were. Dinobots too. I don’t know what to think about all of the combiners and the KO sets of those or Shockwave. I’m getting off topic here, but those high quality KO figures made quite the splash when they hit several years ago. I like that there are newer options here with this toon styled line.

I hope they do Optimus because I have always wanted a version of the G1 figure but it always just slipped my grasp so this will be a great chance to get a cartoon acurate G1 Optimus figure.

These are cool but I have enough g1 reissues for real. I only wish they would reissue the New Year 2002 Convoy since mine was trashed in a flood and he's too expensive now.

I would bet if OP turned up in this line he would be based on the MP colors with the only chrome being on his grill. Maybe a blue windshield, but who knows. Hound didn’t seem to get a blue one, so I guess we will have to wait and see. I’d say he’s all but certain to get a reissue in this room based line, but I’m hoping the trailer comes with it. Ultra Magnus would be cool too.

If they reissued more recent figures, like R.I.D. 2001 Megatron that'd be nice. At least he kinda fits in with a CHUG collection

Man, I'd be blown away if it's one of the "lost" molds like Wheeljack/Mirage/Sunstreaker/Dinobots, but gonna keep my expectations low.....
