Remember how hasbro royally screwed people with dotm? claiming Decepticons sold poorly due to like 1 year of sales data so they decided not to do a leader class dotm megatron. We were robbed of greatness. Instead of a leader class dotm megs we got freaking bumblebee as a leader class.

This is why I’m thinking this head change had to have been last minute to some degree. With that pretty much being the case though, I’m now scratching my head as to why it was done.

With Megatron in ‘07, it made sense, the first design was atrocious by all accounts. Here, both head designs are just the Terrorcon insignia. With this initial design I can at least say it had the fire effect going through the neck going for it, and it that way it just seems better as it makes an uninteresting and colorless design at least somewhat interesting.

 

Same. I keep coming back wondering if I'll like it this time, and I do not.

Don't forget AoE Leader Prime, which had spring loaded panels to fill in the two hollow parts on the legs. Not to mention rubber tires and chrome.

And prices have gone up accordingly – about 25%.

Why is it okay, then, that quality has fallen?

 

So I know a lot of people are not looking forward to him, but as a customizer this figure is a wet dream.


So many flat, smooth surfaces broken up by intricate details and molding. Like all of the ROTB figures, this thing really needs paint to shine.

I think I need to paint one in traditional Scourge colors. Flat black with flat blood red and flat yellow hightlights, then drybrush/weather the entire thing and pick out all those details. Those faction insignias I especially look forward to painting!

 

Plus the fact that a lot of people find the villains cooler at times than you'd think. Soundwave namely. For a hot minute, he was possibly the most popular transformer during the 2000's. Disney's also forgotten about their villains if I may mention lol

 

are we sure we have no Mainline Scourge? Havent we only seen leaks of the first wave? do we have other waves? will it continue into 2024?

Not saying it won\'t happen, but the TLK line last a year and a half before Studio series dropped, it could still happen

Ok... I guess I owe the early stolen toy reviewers an apology, it does have the inner hollow thighs out for alt mode. Wow. There's probably one somewhere, but I can't think of a Transformer that has the inner hollow thigh swivel just exposed like that in alt mode from an angle the alt mode is designed to be viewed from (IE, not from below).

I would hope there's a story here that we'll probably never hear about what forced this into existence. No time? Budget shift? Line shift? This doesn't feel like a figure the team should be real proud of, even if they'll never let us know publicly.

 

Money is tight for me rn, but sometime in the future I wanna get this guy if only for that MF Doom-loooking headsculpt.

It’s hard to say, but I’m leaning towards it being unlikely. We didn’t know about the Voyager portion on the mainline till a month ago. While there may be more listings to discover, I doubt this line will continue into 2024 in any meaningful way.

 

I've realized: They pretty much poured most of the budget into painting all the brown chains all over the pipes and legs and arms and such. Ugh.

 

Megatron wasn’t perfect, but I feel like he executed several things way better than this guy, namely the much cleaner back and arrangement of where everything goes, better usage of faux parts vs. real parts, and a pretty slapping accurate truck mode (hollowness aside).
