I look at that picture on the front and it looks like two different.. "messages" when it comes to character design philosophy.

We have the mini cutlery golem.. a dark reminder of the worst character designs ever produced by the Transformers franchise. I look at that side and it just screams at me "don't bother with these movies anymore, the last one was a fluke and the character designs will never, ever improve past it and in fact have ALREADY started devolving back to Revenge of the Fallen level trash.

Then we have this Arcee, it says "This is respect for a character that got utterly shat on by.. the previous filmmakers." It says hope still remains for the movies if Arcee can finally get some due care to her character design in a live action movie.

It's totally mixed messages.

 

Lets not go that far. They are definitely not the worst ones TF designs in TF’s. Not perfect yes but worst? No.

 

Not really a fan of that Arcee. I like her design in general, but not the toy. I hope that's not the only figure she gets out of this movie.

Arms McGee looks dumb but fun. Not much of an alt mode, but the robot mode is neat.

 

Now I am curious as to what you DO consider the worst Transformer's design(s) in a either a live action or cartoon media? I suppose you can include comics, but with the caveat that depictions of characters in comics panels can vary A Lot depending on size of the panel.

 

I'm not the guy you quoted but for me the ugliest is definitely que from DOTM. God only his mom could love his face. Also day trader from TLK, his face is also ugly, for a different reason tho. It looks way too much like a human. That's about it I guess. I don't find monstrous designs to be ugly. I find it cool in fact. I love constructicon in ROTF.

 

Off the top of my head Beast Machines Maximals, and probably for movies, DOTM Que and ROTF Arcee. I grew up with the Bayverse and love/like a lot of those designs and think they are cool but those two I hate. Also it’s not the worst ever but I think TLK/AOE Prime is my least favorite movie Prime design - don’t look like it transforms and doesn’t really look like Optimus.

 

If this movie somehow doesn't kill the franchise for good, I hope they do away with the bayverse aesthetic. No more gremlins made of scrap please.

Cool little core class rendition of (G1 inspired) movie Arcee.

Now that other garbage can get lost. It looks like a reject legends class from the worst of the Bayverse designs (and I don’t think they were all bad, either).

 

They should've pulled an 86 Hot Rod (edit: In terms of an upscale in price from a previous size class) and given her a more complex transformation, more accessories and more features (flip-down visor comes to mind). But still, this is what we're getting for now, for better or worse.

 

Wait, they still didn’t show what Freezer’s alt modes look like?

If it is clever, I will buy one.

Otherwise neither core figures look appealing.

 

"Attack Caple Jr."

Okay, but for real he legit does remind me of Grievous minus just having 4 arms.

Pretty much a Deluxe Arcee but is still tiny but has the visor, two guns, and is more complex.

 

He supposedly has two alt modes. I presume the aformentioned gun mode, and this mode, which is gun, but with “legs”.


Regardless of how crappy that alt mode is. I want to army build this guy. He makes the perfect little generic goon and at $11 I can pick up three or four to have overwhelming any Autobot.

 

I should also clarify that is one of the 3 weapon modes he has. I don't think the others will look like MP's or so much better compared to this but I do hope they will look better.

 

To be honest I’m quite happy with how Bay-ey Freezer is. While obviously they weren’t great all of the time I really do like the aesthetic and I’m happy that it seems that at least the Terrorcons are carrying that design philosophy forward.

 

Arcee is not terrible but I won’t be picking it up. Freezer OTOH….hard pass on that noise. Really hoped that aesthetic was a thing of the past.
