Big disagree. Any inner shell Pretender robot would need to be Deluxe to be in scale, and a shell for that with basic articulation would probably be Voyager. So probably a Leader price point. Maybe they do one Pretender like this but that's it. Any smaller just to be able to price them cheaper wouldn't be acceptable since Pretenders aren't supposed to be tiny like those terrible Prinemaster decoys.

 

It's had the occasional release, but yeah it's nowhere near as prolific as it was during WFC.
A lot of the Speedia 500 Collection feels like it would have been Gen Selects only one year before.

My guess is that Walmart wheeled in a huge tub of money into the Hasbro offices, and that was the end of Selects

Why break the consistency presented with the decepticon pretender by making his inter robot mode his robot mode with this toy instead of his shell like the tfcc figure? Not pleasing idw fans with this choice because idw metalhawk much more like armada starscream and not this.

Unfortunately not.

 

I personally don't have much of a problem with retools in Evolution, since I got the impression that nowadays characters are designed specifically so they can be retooled into different characters (e.g. I can totally see Legacy Tarn being retooled into a Bludgeon). I much prefer that over the Combiner Wars era where it felt like a lot of characters were simply new-head repaints if not straight up recolours.

 

It's not weird when there's multiple outlets for what would previously be Selects.

Closest right now is the exclusively online SG subline. But Target, Walmart, and Amazon also now routinely get Selects type figures.

 

Ok, now I'm really curious to see how Metalhawk transforms because he's clearly a Cyclonus retool but the back of the torso looks kind of Jhiaxus-y? And it almost looks like the wings are flipped around too, with a hinge visible on this side possibly indicating the reverse side is the 'main' side visible in alt mode? He's not a definite 'buy' yet for me but if his alt mode looks good I might be tempted, just for more Autobot flyers if nothing else.

Metalhawk has wing remolding, they have points on each wing tip!

 

Metalhawk looks great, first Legacy Pretender I've been excited by and plan on actually getting, praying for an eventual shell from some 3P to go with him. Twincast looks fine, but I'm gonna pass as I'm not interested in him enough to get especially with the toon style head as I'm a big advocate for the Blaster toy head.
