Came across this auction on Ebay: http://www.qksrv.net/click-1645815-5463217?loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/Transformers-G1-SOUNDWAVE-100-COMPLETE-MIB-BOX_W0QQitemZ6034502636QQcategoryZ4696QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem At first glance it looks like a great condition G1 Soundwave until you look a bit closer: There's no writing on the box over Buzzsaw. It doesn't appear that there is any writing on the top of the box, where it should say CHANGE for each step There's writing below Soundwave's box art where there shouldn't be. Here's another Soundwave auction to compare it to: Is this a fake or is it just European packaging?
I completely agree. I have no problems with KOs, IF they're actually marketed as such, but the problem is that they usually are NOt.. this crap of "hey, lets fake a toy and then tell everyone its a legit and make a huge profit through the dupe" is pure horseshit!! Andy
the colors on the 2 soundwaves don't match... at all the top one has baby blue on the sides in between the gray areas.
Even if it is a custom box, it's the sellers responsibility to let the buyer know it's a custom instead selling it as an authentic. Plus a custom box should'nt push the price that high. It could be fake but then again the seller has sold alot of TF.s and has excellent feedback. If it is fake he probably does'nt know it. The figs and the paperwork seem real.
I've seen plenty of Soundwaves without the 'Transforms' blurb on the front, and with multiple languages on the top panel. Looking closer at the Buzzsaw, it appears to be the painted wings variant(??).... which is relatively scarce. If it was a recently made knockoff, the odds are that the box would not have any wear, and would probably be a repro of the single-language US box, probably with sticker details on the wings. This may have been made for the Chinese market back in the day.... Something in the back of my mind is telling me that this *could* be a genunie Euro-variant from the final release of Soundwave in 1986. By 1986, Hasbro (I'm fairly) sure were using the Hasbro logo on all Euro TF's. One of the reasons they bought MB was to gain their European distibution network. On that basis, I'd suggest it's one of two things: 1) Genunie Hasbro Europe product, from Germany/Netherlands area. 2) One of the Chinese versions from late 80's/early 90's which was based on the Euro version. Maybe Maz can throw some light on this?
Well for what ever reason the seller has ended the auction early. Perhaps they found something out... or got an offer behind the scenes. Anyways thanks for trying to shed some light on the subject.
A tad late, perhaps, but I just managed to dig out my original G1 Soundwave. Mine is a French language box. Offworld in the UK got hold of a case of them about 5 years ago; I got a MISB one for £50 at the time. And the frontof the box is identical to the one in the picture. And it is genuine. The back of the box has tech specs for Soundwave & Buzzsaw in 4 languages (French, English, and 2 other European languages I don't recognise; I'm pretty sure one is Spanish, and the other one looks like Dutch). The little bit of sriting under the picture is also in the same 4 languages; the English says "Does not operate as cassette player". It is official. It's just non-UK Euro packaging. Like I say, I paid £50 for it; I wouldn't pay what this guy was asking for an opened one though.
That can be caused by different lighting conditions. If you get more light coming back at the camera, it can sometimes cause the color to look lighter in the pciture than in person. And vice versa, it can make the color darker, too.
Here's an AFA G1 Hasbro Euro Optimus Prime version, not sure if there are any differences? AFAIK Euro versions especially AFA are very rare. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6035691856
I was going to vouch for TC too, I've bought stuff from him...a lot. He did remove the item and a legit, albiet more beat up boxed one, is up now.
