I actually quite liked Prime Wars because Megatron was so fantastic and I thought Cyberverse was amazeballs, and I am *really* looking forward to the new Nickelodeon show.

I really adore G1 S3 and I'm pleased to hear anyone else does.

Oh that's adorable. I love Botbots and every now and again they throw in great shoutouts to earlier series.

    "Till all have fun!"

As much as I like the G1 cartoon, in hindsight it's not that good as what people make it out to be.

I don't think people generally 'make it out to be' any better than a big chunk of the cartoons based on toylines from that era anyways.

While I'm perfectly willing to admit on the whole the Sunbow cartoon is overall worse, Prime is still terrible. Furthermore: the Sunbow cartoon at least has the excuse that most cartoons based on toylines back then were about the same level of quality, what's Prime's excuse for being so shitty? It's just like the live action movies: there wasn't much preventing them from being a better interpretation than the original cartoon and yet they STILL failed, which is honestly really pathetic.

    lol

    1. How the hell do you measure 'how' beloved something is?

    2. It being 'beloved' doesn't make it a well-made show, that sounds like an appeal to popularity fallacy.

... None of that disproves anything I've said.

Those are all anecdotes. There are fans who hold the Sunbow cartoon as their favorite and 'the best one', so what's that mean?

You realize that the same could be said about... most TF series at this point, yes? I think a big chunk of the love for the movies comes from nostalgia because it certainly isn't because of their quality, and the same could easily be said for Prime. Despite what you seem to believe nostalgia goggles aren't 'exclusive' to 'geewunners'.

Tfwiki's not exactly known for being the most unbiased of sources, so taking a screencap of a section on TFwiki doesn't really...

Plus... again, it being well-received doesn't make it well made. I'm perfectly willing to believe it IS well-received, but it's still a shitty, overrated show. :lol

Right, but Hound himself wasn't that interesting either.
Him & Windcharger are about the same in terms of not
having a colourful, stand out personality, unlike some of
the newbies who'd appear in S2.

Y'know I'll praise Netflix for this much:
they didn't have the emotional bedrock
    of Soundwave & Laserbeak's relationship
be Stockholm Syndrome. Yeah, you heard me.
Go back, rewatch the scene of him taming Beaky.
    Here's what happened:
Wave lures in a flock of innocent birds, minding their own business.
Captures one. We hear the pained squawking of a desperate animal
struggling to get free before it's made to submit to a larger being's will. It's creepy as hell. Laserbeak_Cyberverse_dogfight.jpg

    Oooh, this place is fun.
    Alrighty then, speedrun.

    >Cyberverse is kiddie show garbage with zero depth.

    >Armada Optimus & Galvatron's final fight is epic.

    >TFP is pretentious at best, up it's own ass at worst.

    >Old Man Megatron from IDW is the best version.

    >Soundwave & Shockwave are mostly utilities.

    >CyclonusxTailgate is the superior ship.

    >Terrorsaur is a Starscream KO, nothing else.

    >Animated Megs is an overrated big bad.

    >Bumblebee (movie) is 90% fan pandering.

I don't hate G1. I grew up watching it on VHS. First episode I recall seeing was City Of Steel. Recreated it's events with my RID & Armada figs at the time. It's a fun show to binge watch, especially when you own it & the 86 movie on DVD like yours truly. ;)  That said, within the last few years, I've noticed how domineering an influence it's become. See, I love the 80s toon because it's the 80s toon, and I love Animated because it's Animated. Easter eggs found in the background are a wonderful bonus, but I'm invested in the latter show's efforts to tell it's own stories, develop it's own identity. Not simply wear G1 on it's sleeves every second like Netflix did.

That's the trouble with G1, it's episodic nature.
Continuity took a backseat to telling scads of
adventure/monster of the week type stories.
Entertaining, definitely, but I prefer my TF to
have more narrative bite to it on average.
I love Animated, BW & MTMTE because
they were ambitious, trying to tell these
grand, thought provoking sci fi tales.
Not to mean I think the 80s toon didn't
dip it's toes into that water, stuff like
Golden Lagoon & Sea Change had their
poignant Aesops. I'm just stating that
the show was more focused upon giving
us old school, pulpy content which'd feel
right at home in a Buck Rodgers serial.

I have to admit, I found TFA a bit annoying to watch. MTMTE had it's good points, but it also had it's bad points, so I'm mixed on it (though I still found it to be IDW's best effort), and BW... BW is cool, but I really feel it still had some stuff that kinda bothered me. But honestly, I feel the best show to have a sort of narrative anchor is Beast Machines.

But G1, I do feel that it improved as it went along. Season one I felt had like Fire in the Sky and Ultimate Doom, but the rest of the episodes I found to be kinda dull. The second season I felt it improved a bit, but still wasn't there, and the third season is where most of the great stuff is. It kept the episodic tone, but I really felt it had some of the best characters IMO (with the exception of a certain green Triple Changer that I'll always despise). It still had some rushed (Starscream's Ghost, Only Human), mishandled (Return of Optimus Prime) and downright bad (Fight or Flee, which I really find worse than B.O.T., B.O.T. is at least giggle-inducing, Fight or Flee is just dull to me, and it doesn't help that a lot of the characters feel out-of-character). Plus, I always found Rodimus to be a way better character than Optimus because I always could relate to the guy. I always had that sort of stress and relapses with insecurity and depression, so I definitely felt for the guy having to struggle with all that, so that really made me like season three even more.

You know, it's time I give it a serious try. I am certain I'll get further than I did with UT.

Yeah. That's the trouble with basically all of the older cartoons, they're aiming for syndication so they have to have 65 episodes to fill a season. As some of the G1 Season 2 plots demonstrate, that's hard to do, and your writers will have to dig to the bottom of the barrel, kick the barrel over, and dig where it was sitting trying to find more plots.
