Nothing is wrong with MP10.
It's a good toy, but let's not go to hyperbole, alright?
To me, 90 degrees of motion on the elbows and knees is inexcusable on a toy that expensive. There are deluxe and legends toys more poseable than MP-10 in that regard. CW Shockwave for example.
Sure, MP 10 looks okay, but I would like a better Prime figure.
What if you're not at all satisfied with MP-10, but more toon accuracy isn't what you want? I want a truck mode that isn't a "cab with big beefy legs behind it". And proper side windows. And realistic horns/marker lights. You know, like the G1 had. It's sad that G1 had a better truck mode than any more recent figure.
I would buy a toon colored MP-10 in a heartbeat. Same for Soundwave. I'm not concerned about realism when it comes to the subject of giant robots that transform into small cars, tape decks, and hand guns.
Soundwave? Now we're talking.
I would buy a Marvel colours Soundwave in a jiffy.
That right there is a beautiful sight, my friend. Looks like you went with just keeping the wheels off the legs all together rather than hinging them to the back of the calves?
If we get a 'toon Masterpiece figure, this is what they'll do. Maybe a new head...but beyond that, probably just a repaint.
Nah. To me, MP-10 still represents the best of what I want from the the Masterpiece line, before all the designs went for the plain "cartoon look," which has actually started to turn me away from the line.
No. While I've never been 100% happy with MP-10, I am not a fan of this trend to be slavishly loyal to the animation model. Megatron looks great but Inferno? UGH.
Hell no, if for no other reason than "where does it stop?". Hasbro's version of MP-10 is more cartoony than Takara's coloring wise, and if that's the itch that needs to be scratched, go grab that figure. Because if they re-do Prime YET again, all that does is open the floodgates to also re-do Sideswipe... and Soundwave... and Wheeljack... and Prowl... and Bluestreak... and Bumblebee... and and and.
The only hyperbole going on here is these stupid claims that new MP's do not remotely match older MP's... and that's just bullshit. Yes, some are now more plain and overly-toon looking, but the aesthetic difference is nowhere as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. They all still fit with each other. And in the case of MP Megatron; people are confusing "too toon" with just being "accurate". THAT is what he looked like - there's not many liberties they could have taken with him otherwise, and once (not if) they release a silver/chrome repaint version, people will see that it fits in perfectly fine with MP-10 and all the rest.
Besides all that, considering MP-10 is THE reference point for all MP's that have come after, they're certainly not going to re-do it (again) anytime soon.
Im fine w MP-10, but if HasTak released a new, more cartoon accurate Prime mold I'd find it hard to resist.
Especially if the cost was kept down by being compatible w MP-10's trailer.
I have zero interest in a cartoon paint scheme (MP-10+).
The characters you mentioned are all fairly cartoon accurate when you compare them to their cartoon models (Save Wheeljack's colors ), unlike MP-10 who deviates the most.
I don't think MP-10 is perfect but cartoon accuracy isn't the problem.
Now would I buy a Masterpiece Optimus Prime with a better vehicle mode and perhaps a touch larger scale? Sure, sign me up!
Depends who you ask. By this now ongoing silly "needs to be more toon... now!!" thing that keeps coming up, guaranteed these same turbo nitpicky fans will/can say the same thing about all the carbots too. Sideswipe needs a more narrow chest, Bumblebee needs a more accurate face/head and yellow coloring, Red Alert needs REAL wheels on his shoulders, Soundwave needs more white, Tracks needs to be blockier, blah blah blah. And ALL of those things HAVE actually been whined about here at one time or another, so if Prime gets a V3, boom, that's a pandora's box being blown open.
I don't know.
I buy a lot of Optimus Primes with the G1 look, but I'd need to see what they did before deciding a yes or no. Would I be open to the possibility? Sure. I'd just need to see that the differences make the purchase worth it.
But, you know what I want? I want a MP Optimus Prime done as close as possible to the look of the original toy. That's right - gorilla arms and simple transformation and all. Give me that, with improved modern articulation, maybe flip-out hands, and I'd be all over it.
Let me see the other option and the price and I'll answer your question.
I voted "I'm satisfied with MP-10" because I both am and it best represents my actual answer which is "Only if when we start seeing images of it I prefer it to MP-10". I'm not a big fan of the recent trend to more slavish adherence the the 'toon aesthetic as I feel the designers should take a broader view across all media, but I'm not going to dismiss something without seeing it first.
I'd actually purchase that, if the price was right. While we're at it, I'd like to see Rachet and Ironhide in their toy forms as well, but with actual bodies and heads.
