I am asking this question pertaining to G1 characters that will have the MP treatment. So this can go for any character who had a G1 toy, or appeared in the cartoon, or comics.

You can make 4 selections so that you might best express yourself. Please don't vote for the same thing twice, like "1 toon, 2 toy, and then 3 toon and toy".

I apologize if I somehow didn't enable you to show your exact preferance. By all means complain about it in the comments section... :)

EDIT: Now I wish I could get rid of the word strictly in front of those single selection. Oh well.

    I picked:
    Strictly Sunbow
    Sunbow and G1 toy/toyart influence
Sunbow, G1 toy/toyart and Marvel G1 or UK comic influence.

I like my figures to have a mix of toy and toon, maybe with a little G1 Marvel thrown in, but I prefer Sunbow to be dominant.

I may have voted incorrectly. I apologise if I skewed the results.

I tend to like Sunbow with G1 toy influences, since those are the two mediums that i grew up with. It varies per character and I also voted for comic influences, since sometimes a figure like Quakeblast really catches my eye.

Generally, toon robot mode, toy alt-mode and coloring. Exception for movie characters, where I much prefer toon coloring and alt-modes.

If we are talking ideal 3P MP, give me some MP BW, BM, and RID figures. I'll buy a Fans Toys MP BW Transmetal Tarantulas without a second thought. Or a MMC MP RID X-Brawn.

    Strictly Sunbow.

When it comes to look, Laserwave, Inferno, Grapple and the upcoming Megatron are exactly what I want in the MP line and, of course, I want my 3rd party MPs to follow the same trend.

Sunbow, G1 toy/toyart, G1 Marvel or UK comic, and IDW comic influence. And Depending on the character. I usually go for Sunbow, but I don't hate the other choices. Since I have the ToyWorld dinobots, I have a mix of G2, Marvel Comics and one G1 MP Dinobots. The two musts are: good quality and I must know who the figure represents at first glance.

    No Studio OX influence?

For all Diaclone counterpart, Real Life alt mode, mix of StudioOX/Toon bot mode, Toon color.

Sunbow and G1 toy influences most of the time.
But I am more of an aethestics kind of guy.
If the figure has the right edge to it, when I look at it and see that right proportions and shape, then it doesn't matter all that much.
    Modernization is always nice :)

Mine is a little hard to articulate lol.

It's based on Sunbow, yet not 100, but also not Sunbow + toy. It's more like... Sunbow, IF it was brought into three dimensions, symmetrical, and clearly designed to be played with. Which for me is exactly what all MPs have done to different degrees. Not so much due to having toy callbacks (although that's fine, I could take or leave it) but just by not being super deformed or anything.

KFC Transistor is another example of what I want.

Crap, I clicked the wrong one. I meant to click "Sunbow and G1 toy/toyart influence" instead of "Strictly G1 toy/toyart influence." :banghead:

Although, it really does depend on the character if I want more Sunbow, or more G1 toy.

In another thread a poster seemed to hit it right for me, but Ill expand it a bit here:

    Sunbow Toon Proportions and Silhouette.
Toy details and realistic altmodes (like Toy Based).
Unrealistic altmodes such as Insecticons, Dinobots, Skyfire, and S3 Figures: Toon inspired altmodes.
Comic references when it doesnt interfere with the other criteria.

There may occasionally be exceptions but in general I prefer G1 characters to be an idealised design using a mixture of reference sources as we saw in the official MP line from MP10-21.

Using just the cartoon as Takara have done from MP22 onwards just doesn't work for me as I think it looks bloody awful and I don't want slavish reminders of that on my shelves.

With Beast Wars characters I don't mind cartoon accuracy as that cartoon provided nicely detailed 3D character models for toy designers to work from.

I suspected most people were NOT going to select G1 Sunbow toon only. Funny, how you always hear people say that "most people want Sunbow toon accurate MP" like it is a fact. They are definitely a vocal group.

A mix of toon and toy. The current toon-centric focus of the official MP line has driven me more to third party offerings than ever before.

I've spent a bit of time thinking about this as I've tried to put my collection together. My own personal definition (which borrows heavily from the dictionary ;) ) is this:

    "Something superlative of its kind"

So as long as I think it is cool and I feel it is worth owning, then it is a masterpiece and belongs on my shelf. That's why my IDW inspired masterpieces hang out with my sunbow masterpieces. That's why there's a spot on my shelf for 'CHUG' scale stuff, despite not fitting the scale of HasTak MP's. Smaller scale stuff can still be a 'masterpiece' by the above definition. Even simplistic stuff can still be a 'masterpiece', as long as it's the best representation of the subject material. Furthermore, one must remember that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Even if all of my own definition criteria have been met, and I still don't like the figure, then it is not a masterpiece to me.

    Hope that makes sense.

For me, it's equal parts toon and toy with a healthy dose of realistic alt mode when appropriate. With non-real alts, I again prefer equal measures of toon and toy.
