Is this just because Sun and Moon changed the animation?

I doubt it's "because" of the Animation change, however it does explain a little as to why they changed it, TV show is simpler on the eyes and is for kids, and while the movie also is, they can amp up the Animation just as the original movies did for the show at that time.

Makes sense the more you think about it, apparently X/Y was a pain in the arse to Animate in the time frame they had just because of how much stuff was happening in the battles.

I think this is mainly because of the anniversary.

I am not excited at all.
But I'm down with it. Better than Ash forging some bullshit connection with the new legendaries because of some pure of heart bullshit for the 20th time.

Guess that explains why Marshadow's the only mythical Pokemon left. They're saving it for the movie after this.

They'll either distribute hat Pikachu or Mew's Z crystal next year to go with the movie.

    LOOK HASBRO! REBOOTS ARE OKAY!

YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THIS CINEMATIC UNIVERSE BULLSHIT IF THE TITAN THAT IS POKEMON CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE!

Maybe because they finally figured out Ash being perpetually 12 for two decades doesn't work?

I wouldn't call this a recap. More like a remake, like the Rebuild of Evangelion movies.

No, recap is taking old previously seen footage and splice them all together for one compilation feature. This is new animation and new footage.

Not something that excites me, but this does look like it could be interesting. Would be cool if this one got a theatrical release here in the states as well.

    No, not really.

I like the look of this: are they going to let him age in this new movie reboot or is just a reset button?

Come on, AB, you know the two are not even remotely comprable.

When was the last time we had a Pokemon movie released in theatres stateside with any sort of advertising push behind it to put it in the public eye? You can't really compare a live action cinematic universe to an animated film one.

I don't know where people are getting "it's a recap" or "it's a reboot" from. We have no info on this other than it stars Ash and Pikachu and apparently Ho-oh is the focus legendary in it.

I guess if anything I'm more inclined to assume it's a recap, given the fact event Pokémon are usually given out at theaters in Japan and there are special Pikachu with all of Ash's hats from the last seasons. This might just be a summary of Ash's ENTIRE journey all the way to Alola.

    It is...detective pikachu.

It's not a live action ash story, or following another trainer. It's literally a talking pikachu doing a Scooby Doo movie

Personally I hate the new animation being used in the new toon.
