That doesn't make you look anywhere near reasonable here. Our issues literally have zilch to do with a Pokémon game. If you care about any of that stuff (which you probably don't), then it's a great show of the potential there to tap into. You act like a Pokémon game would personally pay the California government to set a wildfire or some shit instead of condensing all the cool stuff into a game about cute monsters. :lol

People could give California money to do anything terrible.

After playing Legends: Arceus I never want to go back to old Pokemon, so I had misgivings about the inevitable gen 9.
But then that trailer starts and it is confirmed to be a true open-world, which Arceus wasn't. And I see Pokemon walking around and it even looks just as ugly as Legends Arceus!

Which made me hopeful that some mechanics from Arceus would actually carry over, despite the short turnaround between Arceus and Scarlet/Violet. Obviously, we aren't going to be filling out the first Pokedex this time, so catching one Pokemon will likely fill out the dex entry completely, and it'll still be structured around a league and gyms and will probably have an evil team.

I just hope Arceus' catching options will return, and that battles are done in the overworld with no battle transition screen. If they have that and an open-world applied to the standard Pokemon formula, we'd be very close to my childhood dream game.

Except a Pokémon game won't... it's a Japanese game. About cute monsters. Nothing you're saying here makes sense. It's all just "rawr I hate California," coming out of the blue to try to shoot down people liking the idea of a fictionalized version of it.

Well maybe you should have said that in the previous post too. Because it looks like you were just being a complete twat just to be one before. Knowing the fact that you live there too makes me understand you better and understand the reasons of the action.

So wil this be the most Pokemon games for any one system? The Switch?

    So far I count

    Lets go Pikachu and Evee
    Brilliant Diamond and Pearl
    Sword and Shield
    Legends Arceus
    Scarlett and Violet

Not counting spin off games like Pokemon Snap, Pokken Tournament

    B&W
    B&W 2

    3DS
    X&Y
    AS & OR

Curious about the logistics of a main line open world Pokémon game. They've always had a pretty clear, linear progression but now you can dick around and go anywhere in the region. They already put a burner on catching Pokémon that are overleveled in SwSh, but what is keeping people from going all the way across the map and never fighting the gyms or just circling around the cities and juicing up their Pokémon? I'm guessing story events will all require you to go to a marker or base of operations like Assassin's Creed, Bully, Saints Row, etc. (wow my open world purchases have been really far off from Pokémon. :lol )

Haven't gotten Legends Arceus yet so maybe there's answers there that I haven't seen yet, but open world feels like it might really alter the Pokémon formula.

Open World doesn't necessarily mean unstructured. There is still most likely a gym system that will unlock hms/ride Pokemon for environmental progression. Without it players can only freely explore up to a certain point before having to complete the necessary requirements.

Add in higher leveled Pokemon roadblocks and such and I can see it working.

Some are theorizing if it is open-world sandbox, that perhaps gyms will scale and change depending on which one you go to first.

Like other Pokemon games, you cant control Pokemon over a certain level until youve gotten a badge or milestone marker of some sort.

I went on ebay and bought a level 100 Mewtwo in Sword lol but I couldnt use him until I beat the game. He's my fav character and I really wanted him :p

Mapwise in legends, you will not be able to progress until you beat a boss and you'll need strong enough Pokemon to do that so its pretty balanced.

It may be like BOTW though where you could literally go to the final boss if you wanted. I really enjoy those type of open world games. Build up your character until you feel you're ready, or go overboard and grind to shit until you decimate the bosses completely.

Weirdly enough, I have been able to control Pokémon that are above the level limit in Sw/Sh. Must be some kind of glitch. Been a little while since I played so I guess I forgot that they hadn't abandoned it.

I remember having an overleveled Charmander in Y. Little guy was an asshole.

Of the three, Sprigatito's the cutest IMO, but I'm curious as to what they do with Fuecoco. I'm not really against the bipedal starter trend, but I hope they make an exception for Sprigatito and Fuecoco.

With Rillaboom, they could have made his pectorals into drums, so that he could replicate a gorilla's chest-beating for his sound/drum-based attacks. But either way, he's the best of the three.

You'll do what you've been doing and GameFreak carries on?

    On this, we agree.

I think the more levels it is over, the less chance it will obey kind of thing. If you csn only control level 60, 61 will still battle for the most part, but a 70 wouldn't much at all, and 100 rarely. So you can risk it a bit. Similar algorithm to throwing pokeballs.

Doesn't really seem like it would work with strongly turn- and level-based games like Pokemon. There's only really two options: level-scaling or no level-scaling. If there's no level-scaling, the only way you win is with a gimmick team because otherwise low-level teams don't stand a chance against an endgame enemy; speed stats alone mean you probably wouldn't get a single attack off with most Pokemon unless it was a counter or the opponent was abysmally slow. If there is level-scaling, then it's unlikely to be any more challenging in early game than at the end.

Honestly, level-scaling just always sounds like a bad idea in general to me, especially in Pokemon.

I'm pretty sure the level-based control is mostly limited to traded Pokemon. Ones you catch yourself (plus your starter) I don't think get affected by that problem.

Dumb question, why is Legends Arceus shortened to PLA because I see PLA and I think PLATINUM.

Shouldn't Legends Arceus just be shortened to LA???

I think its PLA for that very reason and just for Pokemon Legends Arceus due to that's how many were calling it at the beginning.

Platinum is actually Pt, often just put together with the gen 4 games as DPPT

See, I wouldn't equate PT with Platinum because PT sounds... inaccurate, probably why I always just think it's PLA.

Heh, it's nice to know I'm not the only one with that mindset.

So we've got Pokemon Scarlet and Violet coming next, huh. Sounds...really frustrating. I get that most of these are colour or jewel based in the main titles, but couldn't we get something at least passably more exciting sounding.

I've always been partial to Burnt Umber and Dark Energon Violet... But I think Hasbro might have something to say if they made a Dark Energon title for a Pokemon game.

Except Platinum’s chemical symbol is Pt, so it’s literally as accurate as you can get
