I have not been keeping track of news about Gen 8. I'm guessing an official announcement will be January or February and a release is November?

 

There really has been no news to follow, other than Meltan who is presumably the first gen 8 Pokemon to be revealed. That said January or February would be a likely time for a big reveal for Gen 8.

 

If there is a gen 8 coming, here's my predictions on starters. Since grass focuses on extinct animals, fire focuses on the Chinese zodiac and water focuses on water animals and weapons, I can think of a grass rhino, a fire rabbit and even though I feel the water may be a duck, I would prefer something better like a water elephant.

 

I went the zoo the other day and saw one of those extinct rhinos you’re referring to, looked pretty lively  

 

I walked right into that one. I should have also said endangered.

 

Really no big deal, his grass starter could easily be based off a Woolly Rhino.

I have another thought. A grass bird or parrot (thinking about the movie Rio), fire rabbit and a water elephant.

 

Honestly what I'd love to see for gen 8 would be for them to finally break away from the grass/fire/water starters. Other trios could be made not that I expect that will happen but i'd love it if it did.

 

Yes! I'd love that, especially since poipole's dex says it's usually a starter pokemon in its native home

 

I’d be surprised if we got another grass bird as gen 7 gave us Rowlet (which broke away from the extinct animal theme etc)

You know what I'm wondering now, I wonder if perhaps Red, Blue, and Leaf/Green are the 3 trainers who choose their Starters before you, which leave you with nothing to choose from except the Pikachu/Eevee. Like maybe you're the 'Ash' of the game and arrive late to the party, and the other 3 have each already taken one of the Starters. Maybe they'd pair typings with names, Red gets Charmander, Blue gets Squirtle, Leaf/Green gets Bulbasaur.

 

Those new Elite Four designs look awesome.
