Hi guys, sorry to post yet another thread with me whining for help inside but im really stumped. I really REALLY want to put a cool blue LED inside my custom TFTM1 primes head so i got the idea from FR to buy these tiny little "finger laser" LED thingies, seen here: As you can see they are tiny, about the size of the middle section of your finger and most of that size is made up of empty blue plastic housing for the LED and batteries. As you can see in my pics though theres still very little room inside the front half of primes head to fit in an LED, 3 batteries a switch and that balljoint. Ive sat down for ages trying to figure out how to make room for all this stuff inside primes head but i just couldnt work it out. Im beginning to wonder if this is even possible so could any of you pro's offer some advice on how i should go about this or if im just kidding myself and this is totally impossible?
never gonna happen in that head. there is an led already in there, I think Jin took his apart and replaced it, said it was a nightmare. The finger laser setup is good and all, but the batteries are bulky, and there's no actual "switch"
Smaller LED for sure. I am with F-R on this one. Never gonna happen in that head. There is already one in there right? I NEVER tackled that one.
I remember jin mention he had to completely disassemble the entire chest to get to the wiring and remove the head.
Not anymore i took it out for the balljoint. Yeah thats what i figured, not enough space unless i build a box to stick on the back of his head to carry the batteries and mold the head around it so it looks more fluid...hmm i gave myself an idea...will there still be enough space for the head to go down and inside the chest though thats the problem. I'll see. If not then oh well it was just to try and see. Any ideas what i could use that would be small enough to go inside or is this head just too small to put anything in there? Thanks for the help guys.
I mean, just looking at the picture....the led bulb is the size of the head... You might have luck building one from scratch (new bulb, better battery, switch) but that's a very very tight space. Another easier option would be a plug type connection, where a wire harnesses into the back of the head and the power supply/switch sit on his back.
You don't need to go through all that, I am charging my camera's battery right now to show you what I think may get the job done. You can definitely fit what you need in the head, hang tight and I'll get the pics going!
Oh yeah that is true. I took my nightwatch one apart to try and mod the chest and by god was it hard. Broke the solder off the chip trying to get it back together so its lights and sounds dont work anymore. A real pain in the backside! Hope ROTF prime isnt as hard and frustrating..i mean seriously...it was "throw against the wall while shouting every possible swear word known to man" type of frustrating, and i dont lose my temper easily.
Alright gang, I never had Movie 1 Leader Prime so I'll use V Prime and ROTF Leader Prime for my suggestion. If we were to take a 3mm LED, which is a common size, a mini DIP switch and a couple hearing aid batteries (tiny versions of watch batts, but only 1.5V so you need two) we can certainly install them into either example of Prime's head. Take it further, those little, itty bitty teeny tiny things next to the LED are actually LEDs! They are designed for PCB mounting, and are a bitch to work with, but I have used them successfully for car model turn signals, aircraft wingtip markers, etc. Let's reduce the size of the switch down to the micro switch (little square with the black button) and we have a really nice compact package! I wouldn't bother with a resistor with either setup, and definitely would not try to tie it in with the existing electronics! Too much trouble! We could even do away with the switch, but it would take too long to explain how and I believe there is plenty of room for a switch, LED(s), and 2 hearing aid batteries in Voyager Prime's noggin, certainly in Leader Prime's. BTW, you don't need the dog hair with either setup! Damn you Quincy!! Feel free to ask me if I'm not clear on anything, and I'll add a pic or two of those "nano" LEDs powered up, I'm too lazy to fire up my soldering iron at this hour!
hank, where can i get micro-switches? I've only been able to find small on/off ones with the 5 pins on the back
Believe it or not, I got these from RadioShack! I must admit, there's a particular RS near me that carries some real hobby oriented stuff I haven't seen at other Shacks. Lemme double check this switch when I wire the nano LEDs tomorrow. This may be a momentary, where it's only on as long as you hold it down, but I think it's a press on/press off type. I'll letcha know! I bought pretty much all the ones they had that were small and useful for kitbashing, so I'm sure I have something that'll work. When I find them I'll give you the package barcodes and product numbers, A local RS near you should be able to get them for you, or maybe you could order online.
Hey hank thanks for the info man. Thing is we dont have radioshack over here so im screwed. Do you think theres any way you could actually build one of these for me and i'll pay you for it? That way when i get it i can figure out how it all goes together and make my own in the future (as long as i know where i can buy all the stuff online). Do you reckon that can be arranged? Id be so grateful that if i came to the US and was in your area id come to your house and do all your laundry for a week!
