Eh, and then Sony said they weren't reducing production.

Those who have a PS5 may be one, and everyone else won't be bothered if they do or they don't Unless you intend to run a PSVR1 on a PS5, it's really the only option.

And it's a good one, IMO.

I just got my PS5 basically for Christmas (well maybe a wee bit before, but we’ll say it was for Christmas) and I’m absolutely hooked after about 10-12 years of not playing video games (my last game was God of War III for my PS3 bc it’s GOW3). I then preordered the VR2 for my birthday (releases that day, so I’m going with that excuse this time) and I’m very rather excited for it. I’ve never even used any VR anything, so it will be quite the experience. I just need them to put out some kickass games for the system to justify the expense. I got the Horizon bundle, so I know that will keep me in entertained for awhile.

EDIT: Oh and I got Gran Turismo 7 for cheap bc I can upgrade it to VR for free (or a small fee, I’m not sure, either way, a badass racing game should also be fun).

Ok folks... I hate to do this and don't want to start a civil war or anything but what are the Pros and Cons on owning either a regular or Digital version of a PS5?

I'm leaning more towards a Digital as even if you buy the game physically you still have to download the game to the SSD anyways and I just find it more convenient than waiting for the game to get delivered or driving to a retailer to get the game.

The only other positive I see on owning the regular PS5 over digital is I can always sell/trade in the game. Also as I'm a product of the 80's,having the Physical game/case still has its charm.

Well please do help me out deciding which I should get. I'm sure it's all preference or in some cases which ever is available at time of purchase but any help would be appreciated and again, let's all keep this civil lol.
(Part of me thinks to just hold out for the eventual Slim or Pro but knowing my luck it won't get released until I buy 1 lol)

    Thx in advance!

    You pretty much said it.

    But to reiterate:
It's copying over from the disc. So depending on your internet speed and data limits, going disc would help. Copying is not as bad in install time. You also still download the day 1/etc patches though but you save some data.

Like you said too. It’s easier to return games and can trade in games with a disc model. Plus you can watch DVD’s and Blu Rays.

I got digital model, I love not having to swap discs (THE WORST) or having them laying around. I don't sell games/trade games so I don't care about that at all. Resale value is pennies on the dollar at shops anyway, and selling online is a pain. Not worth the effort. I can pre-download and play games the second they are released, no hassle. Also, no optical drive to eventually fail and render the whole thing pointless.

Got an additional TB internal drive installed with an additional HDD for PS4 games, never looking back. Physical media will be dead and gone soon.

While I respectfully disagree about all physical media going the way of the dodo (Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft would get hell from retailers if they did away with physical games altogether), I do agree that digital is much more convenient. Frankly, I’m surprised GameStop hasn’t gone bankrupt yet.

As someone who went predominantly digital with gaming back in 2013, it's just much more convenient. The biggest benefit of having a physical game is that you can trade it in. The downside of that (in my experience) is that I inevitably want to play that game again, so I'd have to track down another copy, not to mention that trade in value on games isn't what it used to be and the price reduction on used games isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be either.

Nah.. Big box stores would be happy. They'd rather have a few pegs of cards they can sell than whole cases for the games.

Also, could always just have the empty cases like they do now anyways.

The biggest pro to owning the disc version of the PS5 is you're not locked into whatever the pricing is on the PSN. You can take advantage of sales being run at Target, Best Buy, etc. for physical copies.

That's a good point. I always forget that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo don't often run sales (Steam is my main platform), so that's definitely +1 to physical. As an alternative though, if you have a Gamestop membership you get $5 off a month. That $5 off works on the digital store cards, so if you bought 1 $20 card (or whatever the minimum for Sony cards is) each month to just bank on your account, that's a free $60 over the course of a year. So there are ways to game the system, even with digital.

I can't speak about Microsoft but Sony does do sales fairly often, there's usually some kind of 'here's a variety of stuff' sale that pops up on Wednesdays. Sometimes the list is kinda meh but there can be some good deals in there. So it's not like things are never on sale.

Hey Thank you all for your insight on the matter. As we speak I am more torn than ever on Reg vs Digital lol. For my situation right now my Internet connection is very basic and I can't really play any multiplayer first person shooter as I lag like hell and don't get me started on Tekken 7 lol. Also I'm on wifi and it be impossible to run a cable from my room to the router,I mean it's possible but too much of a hassle.

For now i think I'll hold off on buying either consoles and sleep on it. Lol this sucks personally for me as both have their Pros/Cons. I think my gut is telling me to get the Regular but when I see the grand total for both and realize I'm saving $110 on the Digital version,it's a no brainer for me but i'll see still.

Anyways thanks to all. Appreciate everyone's opinion.

Fair, wasn't aware of that since I haven't owned a Sony system since PS2. I'm just grateful that they've started porting their games to PC

Biggest downside in your situation (in my opinion) is that downloads may take awhile due to slow internet. In that case, you could always just plan to install games overnight. I regularly install games over wifi on my Steam Deck and Switch and it's usually not a problem.

That's what's odd to me. I'm sure you're totally right on the Slow internet/downloading speed but I swear it feels the same to me. I remember back then, downloading COD WW2 from a disc and took about a good 3+ hours or so. FFWD few years later and I bought COD Cold War (digitally) and that too took about a good 3+ hours and I'm always aware any COD title will have a huge file. Lol I just think I'm use to waiting now.

I sure do miss the old days of popping in the Disc and gaming right away.

That sounds about on par with some of my downloads and I've got the 2nd highest tier of Cox internet.

I'm waiting for the day they switch to games on nvme drives. Tons of storage and instant transfer rates. It will be like the cartridge days all over again! They would just have to work on security features, but the technology is there.

Can someone tell me how daunting of a task is it to expand the hard drive? And what is the best SSD for the money.

Corsair MP600 PRO LPX 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 Gen4 SSD - Optimized for PS5 (Up to 7,100MB/sec Sequential Read & 5,800MB/sec Sequential Write Speeds, High-Speed Interface, Compact Form Factor) Black https://a.co/d/cCAFRB5

Super easy process. There are hundreds of videos online. You just take one of the PS5 sides off by sliding it. Then you’ll see a plate. Take it off. Slot in the SSD and screw everything down. PS5 auto detects and formats it. All you need is a Philips head screw driver.

Also, the current limit of the expand SSD is 4TB. PS5 isn't accepting any 8TB nvme.
