4K is the new 3D, which at least is less of a gimmick.

At this year's CES, most TV manufacturers removed 3D from their new models. I blame active 3D with their crap bluetooth glasses, they killed the industry. The tv sets were affordable, so people bought them, not realizing that the glasses were expensive and headache-inducing. People expecting a RealD 3D experience like at the theater were sorely disappointed. That is, unil a handful of TV sets came out with passive 3D, same tech as the movies. But the tvs were more expensive and IMO the harm was already done. The way I see it, active 3D killed the home 3D market.

I am saddened by this, because I love my passive 3D tv, but there are no next gen game that offers 3D, even though the PS4 can do it. Zen Pinball does offer 3D play on the PS4 and is the only PS4 title I know of that does.

Same here... well, not really. I was up around 1 AM and started the download, but I sure as heck had to do it myself.

I'm mad the PS4 currently does not support 3D Blu-Ray playback...I guess it'll give me an excuse to leave my PS3 hooked up once I do get a PS4, but still stupid.

Hm, didn't realize the other thread was pretty old. Should I have posted my PSN ID here?

Didn't look at a single preview, and I am legitimately surprised how good Infamous looks, now I'm dying to download Ground Zeroes, Resogun, Strider, and Outlast.

I envy the fact that you don't know what DOTA is. :(  Just avoid it like the plague and you'll be fine.

No, Defense of the Ancients started life out as a mod for RTS games Warcraft III and it's expansion The Frozen Throne. It's a massive online battle arena (MOBA) with RPG leveling. League of Legends is another example of the genre.

I think it's also the single most popular free mod that became a game unto itself; with Counter Strike as it's closest contender. Funnily enough, Valve Corp. bought both game's IP rights to release licensed sequels in the form of Counter Strike: Source in '07 to coincide with Half Life 2, and recently they made Defense of the Ancients 2.

What you're thinking of, is most likely Blizzard's own 'World of Warcraft'.

I'm pretty sure the play styles and skill sets are very different. And DOTA had a single player mode, and was very popular among the LAN party crowd which is distinctly different to internet online play crowds.

3d isn't dead, not by a long shot. Most high end tvs on the market now have 3d, although now it's often just another listed feature rather than a hyped selling point.

PS4 hasn't pushed the technology, not yet, but when games start supporting Sony's VR headset they'll have to include a 3d option.

I'll take 3d over 4k every time. 4k is current cinema resolution, for most things it just doesn't make enough of a difference. You could rescan films and 95% of the time there just isn't enough detail in the original negative to justify it. But there's no mistaking the depth perception you get with 3d.

I saw a demonstration of 4k on an 84 inch LG. It was impressive at that scale, but on the smaller screens the difference was marginal. Films would have to be comprised of massive crowd scenes, on epic landscapes, filled with millions of floating snowflakes, for it to be worth it.

There isn't a huge selection of content available for 3d. There is almost no content available for 4k. PS4 isn't doing much to support 3d. PS4 will not be doing anything to support 4k.
