I have no idea how these ended up looking so bad.

Bandai may have phoned it in for Godzilla: KotM.
Playmates seem to have actively made them terrible.

I really don't understand why they're able to churn out trash like this and the KOTM line with Toho's blessing to make whatever monsters they want but Neca can only do Godzilla. Say what you want about Neca quality but for the <$30 range their Godzilla figures can't be beat.

    Right?
They get to do Gigan, Destroyah and Space Godzilla.
    And they all look TERRIBLE.

    Playmates makes good stuff.
Why do these look so bad?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's got more to do with Neca not wanting to pay the licensing fees on the individual monsters. Apparently Toho licenses each of their kaiju seperately. I know in the past it's kept other licensors from doing more than just Godzilla such as the Hannah-Barbera cartoon and the old Marvel comic.

What in the actual hell are these??? Bandai US vinyls weren’t always the best but even Hedorah and MG 94 weren’t... this. Considering it’s not impossible to get the prior Bandai US Space Godzilla, this is... eww.

Randy has mentioned that he doesn’t want to do other kaiju besides Godzilla for non-KOTM films. It’s NECA, I don’t question these things.

Hopefully Bandai yanks the license from Playmates for copying their packaging and bootlegging their figures from bootlegged molds.

Might just be a local thing due to the post-holidays reset. Bandai Power Rangers stuff didn’t exactly instantly vanish. If it’s more prevalent, at least I’m glad I already grabbed King Ghidorah and King Caesar.

What about the Jakks KOTM toys?

Those KOTM sets are still there. The Bandai disappeared right before Christmas. There was a ton of them.

I would've bought a couple but, $13 for a piggy bank with no coin slot, I cant do.

The Playmates apple has fallen VERY far from the TMNT / Star Trek tree.

Playmates did a lot of cool things for Star Trek... but they also never bothered to do a Riker that wasn’t battle-damaged, heh.

Ordinarily I would say that a comment like that smells like some crazy conspiracy theory.
However, in this case, I think that is exactly what happened.

The last Playmates products I purchased were both the Legendary Defender and Classics Voltron.
We all know how much they screwed up the marketing and distribution but the toys themselves are GREAT.

When I heard Playmates had the license I knew the toys would be kid friendly, but I was actually kind of excited.
Kids need good Godzilla toys, too, and I figured the quality would be on a par with Voltron and their TMNT toys.

I don't know how they produced this garbage, let alone how Toho decided to let them produce it.
NECA can't make a Gigan, Destroyah or Spacegodzilla but Playmates can (possibly) steal some bootleg molds and then mass produce these characters that are somehow much worse than the bootlegs?

The packaging has nothing to do with Playmates stealing anything - there was previously some odd mandate regarding the toy packaging of classic Godzilla merch that had to be followed. I have no idea WHY but suspect it’s connected to Toho’s long-standing ties with Bandai Japan. For a time, NECA also had to use packaging in this style, Bandai America Godzilla vinyl and all. Now apparently Playmates either has to or chose to follow a similar style, only replacing Godzilla 1954 with Godzilla 2000.

Cheap toys for five year olds to throw around.

    What’s the problem exactly?

Um... I'm not giving any conspiracy theory or anything, I was just pulling a random sarcastic comment out of my ass to be funny.
