I have a few acid-free plastic storage bins that work well for loose toys, but they are all rounded-off at the edges, so are not ideal to store Transformer boxes. The rounded edges mean there is lots of wasted space, and a greater chance of the boxes getting crushed into irregular shapes.

I have some masterpiece boxes, and some smaller stuff.

Can anyone suggest a good brand or store to look at to get some completely square storage bins with snap-on lids?

Here is an example of what I don't want... rounded bottom edges and sides that rise at an angle.

I bought all my bins at Walmart. I have all my MP figures and some 3rd party stuff MISB. Granted they only hold about 3-4 figures depending on which ones. For example MP-10, MP-11, and MP Thundercracker only fit in one 30 gallon bin. They do have larger bins. Which I only purchased 1 of those to fit alot of loose figures and some G1 reissues in boxes. As always put all your figures in ziplock bags before you place them into the bins. I have a flat bin that slides underneath my bed which holds all my loose CHUG figures.

That's kind of what I am doing right now, but plastic seems like it would be better in case of water or silverfish.

I for one can't stand cardboard boxes. I had a whole gargae full of them and broke them all down and threw them away. I condensed so much into the plastic storage bins that you save so much space. Also silverfish and water can be serious problems. I only keep certain carboard boxes that fit large figures such as Fort Max.

I bought about 25 doublewall cardboard boxes for storing things, I bought them new and the same size so they can be stacked to the ceiling, doesn't waste much space at all. I fit all the unboxed DOTM Deluxe/Voyager/Leader figs in one of them.

I'd also though never store anything II was seriously worried about in my garage.

I also bag all the figure in individual platic ziplock bags.

And we don't have silverfish here, and I'm 10 feet above the river level.

I guess it does depend on your circumstances.

Those plastic storage boxes for the most part aren't airtight though so water and silverfish could get in.

I also use Really Useful(tm) boxes for smaller stuff and because it does look nicer when you can see inside.

Yea but if everything is sealed in Ziplock bags there really is nothing there for them to damage.

Sealing figures in plastic bags is actually not a very good idea from what I understand..... You should leave the backs slightly open so that you don't wind up with condensation inside the bag.

But then that's the same with cardboard boxes and they usually cost 1/5th the price. and are perfectly right-angled.

I guess that's a difference in climate issue I guess there's one benefit for being a transformers collector in this green & pleasant land.

Go to Target. These worked well for me, were relatively cheap, and the sides are almost squared off. I've probably got 30-40 of them. I've even shipped them 3-4 times while I was in the military with one being from Hawaii to Connecticut. My only problem was with a few tops being cracked after shipment. Easy to replace as almost all Targets have them.

Thanks for the input so far everyone!

These look alright, but I was trying to avoid anything with sides that rise at an angle.

I buy bins from Walmart. They're stackable and not too tall so the toys inside don't get crushed

Dumb question, does it matter if a plastic bin is acid-free or not?

It is a big deal when it comes to comic bags and backing boards...

    Here's some info on that.

Storing in non-acid-free containers could cause a problem with toy boxes... but any noticeable discoloration or damage would probably take 5+ years.

I haven't really looked into how storing in non-acid-free containers impacts plastic toys. Maybe there is a greater risk of yellowing? I'm sure someone knows.

I use this style but in a 66 Quarts size. Very awesome for space and you can see who's all in the tote.

well, as a suggestion, maybe get darkly colored non transparent plastic boxes. remember while its more convenient for you to look inside without opening the box, any white figures are still prey to the harmful sunlight. so i say the darker the better.

if you keep your TF collection inventoried on a spread sheet just number the boxes and further organize your inventory that way. could save time and trouble.

Check out bins you can find at like Lowes, or Home Depot, or hardware stores. There's generally some pretty good ones without riising at an angle sides to be had there, though the caps are strange generally.
