How well does this scale with MMC’s Overlord?

OMG. I am at a friend's house and on first impression this figure is just absolutely outstanding. He is painted to the 9s. Bobby Skullface is guaranteed to piss himself when he reviews this figure.

The tolerance on my friend's copy is just about perfect. The ratchets on his hips are of the softer variety but they are good enough to hold poses. You add the butterfly joints and waist bend and he's got really great articulation.

I already said that at the beginning I was totally MEH on this figure. I preordered once and dropped it and now I absolutely can't wait for my own copy to arrive.

For once, I feel someone has replicated an IDW figure almost perfectly from the comics. This is IDW Star Saber.

This guy is probably going to be my no 1 3rd party figure of the year, and that's saying something after the super strong showing of DX9/UT La Hire and FT's Roadking.

Planet X should make Skids next.

Is it possible to transform this figure without removing the little Saber robot? In the comics, this particular version of Star Saber seemed to have an all-in-one transformation, and I was wondering if the toy can do that too.

Not really. This guy is typical Generations size. MMC's Overlord was was too big, being around a few inches taller.

I want to spend a little more time with Kadmos before saying much, but the first impression is a very, very good one. The paint and colors and mixed media are of the variety where you notice more the longer you look. The clear blue plastic panels on his shins, the deep metallic paint, the blood red and stark whites, the mix of glossy and matte...it all makes for a gorgeous composition.

Double joints with deep bends, side to side torso rocker, individual finger joints that actually feel tight and robust.

A simple yet elegant and effective transformation.

A little dude that combines and is fun and rock solid on his own.

    A chrome sword.

It’s all stuff that is right up my ally.

So far, and I haven’t spent a lot of time getting to know it yet, but so far there are two things that stand out as negatives for me. First is the head. I’m fine with the sculpt, I actually like it quite a bit in hand, but it does strike me as being a smidge too small. Just enough to be noticeable to me.

The other thing is that his hips do have a frobble. They aren’t loose and he stands and poses just fine, but when you pick him up the legs jiggle around like there’s too much play between ratchet teeth. It’s not really a detriment to structural integrity but it’s one of those tactile things that kind of bugs me.

Regardless, all gold stars so far.

Actually, that might be the correct scale. Overlord in the comics is a big guy. This guy is not GeeWun.

When a figure is close to perfection, its tiny faults would stand out more, because it gets you thinking: "they managed to get A, B, C, D, .... right, but why didn't they take it all the way". For the record I think the head size is fine, but as someone has already pointed out, the fact that they copied the mould of the ear is kinda irritating. In terms of the hips, I wonder if you can tighten those. After all a screwdriver is included in the package ;)

Overlord's size was greatly exaggerated in Last Stand of the Wreckers, and only in scenes with the Autobots. After in MTMTE onwards, his size was presented far more consistently with what a Generations Leader class would be.

Hell, in the comic he's only a couple heads taller than Tarn, but Carnifex absolutely towers over Kultur and those two are from the same line.

The meeting with Tarn happens later. Overlord is still a big bot when he's still being held prisoner in the Lost Light.

Ok, Kadmos is definitely not this big. StarSaber.jpg

At that size, he might as well be one head shorter than Overlord in Last Stand of the Wreckers, which means he should tower over Cyclonus.

Every time I see this figure, I either want to lick the screen or grind one up and inject it in my veins.

I'm so enamored with their Deathsaurus, I have to have their Star Saber. Have to.
