Thanks for the reply bud. Yeah my cybertronian “chug” set is mostly MMC, Planet X, and Maketoys Cross Dimensions so it seems like these would work.

Glad you have no regrets and still enjoy them!

So after getting a replacement and modding the backpack I love him! Best Ironhide I own. He looks great with MMC, MakeToys and CHUG alike. Especially if you are a fan of a super (IDW back from the dead) Ironhide.

I got him for a very similar reason as yours. I thought ER Optimus and Megatron were too small, so I broke out my MMC Megatron and MakeToys Striker Manus (who will soon be replaced by MMC Optus). The problem was ER Ironhide, for my shelf, was too small. So I grabbed this guy.

Is he the Striker Manus or MMC Optus of CHUG Ironhides? No, but right now he is literally the best deal for an Ironhide on the market. Including official stuff, considering how expensive ER Ironhide goes for, and looks positively awesome.

Exactly what @Rob said. I don’t love Planet X Ratchet, but it’s the best CHUG Ratchet in 3P right now and it still looks great on my MTMTE shelf.

Agreed. I am actually surprised BFP has not made an oversized premium painted Siege Ironhide/Ratchet, because that seems like an easy and cheap win in the CHUG/3rd party market.

Especially considering there are only TWO 3rd party CHUG Ironhide/ratchets (Igear and Planet-X).

i like Ironhide a lot; he's $45 on BBTS right now and certainly worth that price.

There's just one bit of the transformation that I find infuriating- the lower leg/feet section has this one bit on a mushroom peg that you have to slide in first to get everything else to line up JUST right. Dont' see why that couldn't have jus been a simple flat peg...

yeah there are things I don’t get. He essentially transforms like a more frustrating Voyager FOC Soundwave. Why? Should have been only marginally harder, but instead it is a process.

Also I think if he depended on ratchets instead of friction joints it would have made things MUCH better.

Finally, there is this fear of breaking him. Maybe it’s just because i got two duds that are frankenstined into a single working figure.

Edit: okay more good news for anyone interested in improving this figure. I added Shock oil to the many panels in the legs and it makes it MUCH smoother of a transformation. Much of the fear of breakage has largely diminished, because the parts move nice and fluid between transformation.

With everything working smoothly and the back pack removable, this guy is finally worth the price of admission.

Welp, only had mine for about a week and even taking the utmost to avoid breaking anything in the shins, the foot hinge just completely broke apart. Bit of a bummer

Oh that sucks! Yeah even after all the modding and protection, the shoulders on mine became SUPER floppy with no practical way to tighten them. It’s not a break, but it is one step below a break so that’s annoying.

We need a new Voyager Ironhide/Ratchet.

Edit: put some future in the cylinder joint and that helped.

Absolutely. I’m more in the IDW MP type market so I bought this for that and while he looked fine, out of the 5 companies I have figures from this is easily the worst overall and I know it’s not even representative of Planet X’s general quality too since I’ve owned figures by them before. Honestly I’d take anything at this point

I know the 3rd party market is playing it safer now that Hadnro has upped their figure game. But it seems clear that Ironhide/Ratchet are sold at the Deluxe 5.5” range. Leaving the 3rd party market wide open for a 6.5” to 7.5” range. This size van fill both lather CHUG and Masterpieces.

Got my set from BBTS earlier this week and finally got a chance to open them. Really bummed when Ironhide's leg fell off out of package. The hip joint looks broken/sheared off. Ratchet looks ok at first glance, but I probably won't be transforming these guys anytime soon.

I had the EXACT same thing happen with the set I got a couple months back. BBTS was great though by sending out a full replacement at zero cost.

If I'm not mistaken, the I-Gear ones are in the 6-7 inch scale and look great in both modes. I use(d) them as my CHUG van bros in my collection until my chugs went into storage.

Yeah he is about 6.5 to 6.75 inches. I have Igear Ironhide he is still great, but I would love an updated version with some modern engineering and a streamlined transformation. May be use ER Ironhide or MP Ironhide as a base to start from. A 3rd party company could call it Weapon Specialist 2.0 in honor of the original.

Keeping on topic, I’ve had Planet-X Ironhide for a bit and after (1) modding to make the backpack removable; (2) adding a lot of layers of floor polish to the shoulders; (4) and adding shock oil to the ankles, knees, biceps, and bicep swivel, he is a pretty good figure.

I just wish I did not have to go through the trouble and they would have used ratchet joints and a removable backpack from the start.

    I had the same experience.
Also, Ratcher somehow feels better than Ironhide. Maybe the white plastic is somehow better than red?

I think it might be a case the plastic in production is inconsistent in quality. So you might end up with a lemon.

Got mine yesterday. Ironhide's shoulder came off in three pieces trying to shift it into place, was an easy fix. Kind of annoying.

Just got Ratchet out and his leg broke during transformation. Super bummed, especially factoring the USD to Canuck bucks.

just fyi the two-pack of these is $80 on BBTS right now. $45 for ironhide and $55 for ratchet individually too. i don't have these cuz the issues scare me off, but if anyone else is on the fence now's probly the time
