so i haven't made one in years (when i say years i'm talking over 10) so i've been out of the loop as far as the current state of the technology used in making dioramas now a days. maybe someone out here can help me with some suggestions as far as building methods and so on.

so i plan on making a teletran 1 dio. and was thinking should i built it by hand from scratch (which would take lots of time and most likely be expensive) or should i just build it digitally and then get it printed up.

i stuck in between both methods because both would be fun lol but i don't know as far as cost would go.

here's a pretty sick papercraft version, and it's in scale for masterpiece/binal tech sized bots

    link

it's a great start, you might even get some styrene and go from there

I'd make the framework out of foamcore, then use styrene for the panels and details.
Depending on how big you want to make it, the entire piece shouldn't cost more than $20 total. Foamcore is available at dollar stores, and the thin styrene to use is the same stuff used for FOR SALE signs at Wal Mart. A large sheet sign is cheap and lasts a long time.
You can also use frosted Mylar for screens if you want to add lights (any good hobby store has them), which can be printed on. I've done this in the past, making miniature stained glass windows for Warhammer scenery, and it really looks striking.

ive never worked with styrene is it able to cut with an x-acto knife? i know their is this stiff ass foam that you can file down and it can keep its shape while being handled that what i was thinkin about using for details like control panel switches and nobs. where i live at the best hobby shop that i can think about is a place called Bruckner hobbies and they have loads of shit, maybe the guys over there can even suggest whats best to use.
