Looked for a thread like this and could not find it so here it is! The thread for talking about anything pixar related!
I've been a lifelong fan of Pixar. Like a lot of people my age, Toy Story was a huge part of my childhood and has remained with me throughout my whole life. Toy Story 4 was my favorite film of 2019 and impacted me on an emotional level. Pixar hasn't been the same since Toy Story 3 so I was happy to get a film on par with some of their earlier works. My three (technically 4) favorite Pixar films are Toy Story 2 & 4 (tied for first), Ratatouille, and The Incredibles. Also, no one does side characters like Pixar, as I've found that they are one of my favorite aspects of pre-Toy Story 3 Pixar movies.
Fan of the first Cars movie here. I have to agree that Pixar does not hesitate to make side characters lovable. I saw bits of The Incredibles, and it was a good film. Have yet to see Toy Story or its sequel films though.
Been a long time fan of Pixar since taking my younger siblings to see Toy Story when I was about 14 or so. I'd say my favorite films from them are probably the two Incredibles movies though. Onward looks really fun, but I'm not that keen on Soul at the moment since it looks similar to Inside Out from what little info I've seen about it.
Forgot to say this earlier by my favorite film is probaly all of them because they all are unique in their own way to me.
I was a pretty diehard Pixar fan out of the gate and immediately watched everything they did, but I admit that they started losing me around Wall-E (I hated the mix with live action) and officially turned me into a casual-viewer-at-best from Cars 2 on. I hated that one, barely got through Monsters University & Finding Dory, could not get through Brave, and skipped everything else altogether except The Incredibles 2... which I thought completely blew compared to the original. My hands-down favorite pre Toy Story 3 movies from them are A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc. and The Incredibles, followed very closely by Finding Nemo and Ratatouille, and then Wall-E, Up and the Toy Story's. Cars is the only one out of that era that I always forget about. I didn't think was bad necessarily, just... okay.
Well, each to their own. I did enjoy what little I saw of Incredibles, but I have yet to watch the whole thing. I did like Wall E as well. I saw that on in theaters, it was good.
Toy Story 2 blew me away, and I really loved Incredibles. I thought Cars and Nemo were very well done and hit all the right notes. Bugs Life was good fun. Cars 2 was boring, 3 a bit better but not as good as the original. I wish the Toy Stories stopped at 2. Haven’t seen all of Dory... and don’t wish to. Incredibles 2 was a step down, but I’d still be down for a 3 or a pre- Incredibles 1 series. Aside from the above, Pixar isn’t even a blip on my radar any more.
I honestly keep forgetting Brave is a Pixar movie, it seems more like a regular Disney movie rather than one of theirs. For me, Cars is the least interesting thing Pixar has ever made but since it has made more money than the GDP of some nations for Disney over the years with its merch, I accept it's existence as Pixar paying the piper to keep the suits off their back so they can make stuff like Inside Out, which on balance is probably my favourite Pixar movie.
Love every Pixar film up to Toy Story 3, with Cars being okay but nothing special or unique, but I still like it okay. Yeah it’s a bunch of cliches, but I think for a kid it could be their first time with said cliches so they don’t mind it, which is probably what happened with me. I can recognize as an adult it’s not unique or great but I like it fine. Cars 2 was trash, never bothered to see Brave besides a few amusing clips of a genuinely lovable Billy Connolly as the dad. Monsters University wasn’t too great but it hit home for me a little since I was starting college that fall, and even then it fell into the Extremely Goofy Movie trap of “we gotta make our frat the best ever” cliche. Inside Out was really good if just for its powerful ending where Riley cries; again that hit home because I watched that not long after coming out of a period of depression. Fuck Bing Bong, that’s what made me cry. Didn’t bother with Good Dinosaur. Dory was okay, definitely B material but it wasn’t terrible. Coco was a masterpiece on the level of their finest work. Incredibles 2 was a major step down but with some great moments, I’ll never not smile during Jack-Jack’s fight with the raccoon, that was golden. Toy Story 4 is a beautiful mess. I like the deep dive into Woody’s character and how ultimately he refuses to move on from Andy, and that the movie accepts him for that. But the ensemble focus is gone, the whole thing feels like the side episode like Toy Story shouldn’t feel like, and yes it comes as an epilogue to a perfect ending. Onward does not look good. Chris Pratt’s character is just Maui/Kristoff, Tom Holland is Tom Holland, lemme guess, the dad was the villain and was sealed away for a reason. I don’t like the designs either, and the art style of Disney and Pixar is SO painfully obvious and distracting looking. Soul looks okay but now I’m worried it’s going to be an Inside Out rip-off. I will say that the first Incredibles while still great didn’t quite resonate with me as much as their other films and like Shrek 2 did the same year. I know I’m a heretic but I preferred animal-focused films growing up anyway. The video games for Toy Story 2 and A Bug’s Life for PS1 we’re really fun, as was the Cars video game. I really loved the latter’s open-world setting where you could explore Radiator Springs and the surrounding area all while listening to a nice soundtrack.
Honestly I say wait until another trailer hss come out the first one we got didnt tell much about the plot
You and me both. It just doesn't have the normal Pixar feel to it. It doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of the film but add to the fact that it lacks that magic other Pixar films have ...even the ones I dislike... and you have a real dud there.
Been a fan of Pixar ever since I saw Toy Story in theaters when I was a wee six-year-old lad. That movie, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Wall-E, and The Incredibles are easily my favorites.
Wall-E is still one of my favorite films of all time. I've never seen another movie quite like it, especially an animated movie. It takes itself fairly seriously. The humor is very different than the typical animated movie. It's the kind of movie that could have easily become super cutesy or merchandise-based, but it mostly avoids that. At the time almost everyone I knew disliked it, because they found it boring. It really wasn't until I started using the internet that I realized how beloved it is. I don't think we'll ever see another movie like Wall-E. I really like a lot of Pixar movies. The first three Toy Story movies, Incredibles, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo (I was super into that movie when I was younger), I even like all three Cars movies. I haven't liked the last couple (I still have yet to see Coco). Finding Dory was decent, but a bit bland. I definitely prefer pre-Brave Pixar, that was probably the first that did nothing for me.
