So I been a die-hard fan of Sega's Phantasy Star series since the Master System days. I loved the hell out of the original PSO on the Dreamcast and Gamecube, and Phantasy Star Universe on the PC.

In July, they released Phantasy Star Online 2 for the PC in Japan with plans to have a US/EU version some time early 2013. The best part is, it's microtransaction driven, so it will be free to download/free to play!

Anyone else looking forward to this game?

Ooooh! Ooh! How is it?!! Is it an open world MMO or is it randomly generated dungeon instances like PSO and PSU? Can't really tell from Youtube videos.

when I played only the beginnng areas were available to me due to a huge amount of lag trying to leave(I could leave, but it was difficult, and not that grand at the start). Most likely due to a large amount of players and me trying to play from the US. It does a wierd system where the dungeons sort of are open world. The have set ways they can b created that get shuffled. They are very large areas that is not completely linear. You do need to have an active quest to play an area, but there is always freeplay quests if you just want to play

Ah okay. Sounds like the usual instance-based system they been doing since the original PSO.

yeah, that's pretty much the style for the series. I can say that the shooting mechanics were not that good. If you like to play ranged and they haven't changed it by now it can feel a bit clunky. But swordplay is nice and fluid. There is a very nice selection of weaponry though
