Since I'm a starting masterpiece addict, I thought I'd have a thread about having pets chew on your toys, I don't know if a thread like this exists, but anyone care to join this thread?
My dog r.i.p Homeslice! God love him he tore through so much stuff in the 12 yrs he was around lol. He destroyed a resaurus ken figure from sf3 and a build it yourself goku i had
My dog chewed up the Dead End Mini-Con that went with Armada Unicron. I haven't managed to find a replacement for a decent price since.
Despite my Mum's dog being a little piece of shit and regularly picking up random things that she clearly knows she shouldn't have because it'll get her attention, she's surprisingly never tried to grab a Transformer from my lowest shelf. I've got a very strict "for the love of fucks sake, anyone who goes in my room while I'm not around close the door behind you so the animals can't get in unsupervised" which also helps minimise contact with the cats and dog. If it's something you're worried about though the solution is surprisingly easy; Keep your TFs out of reach of the dog. One of my cats has been responsible for a damaged TF though. She snuck into my room with out me noticing, tried to jump onto the top on my display, which is where my CW Combiners currently chill, and because she couldn't get her claws into the smooth surface, slipped off, taking Victorion (who I'd only had for a day or two at that point), breaking the hilt of her sword and knocking over some TFs on the lower shelves on her way down.
The cat doesn't chew my robots, but he does occasionally lick them. I guess plastic just tastes good to felines. Come to think of it, that must be why I collect Transformers myself!
See, when our cat, trace, chews on my toys, you seriously can't get mad at her, here's how she looks like. At least my ego maniac masterpiece starscream is kept safe from her.
I'll preface this by saying I did not usually have the tidiest room growing up so alot of the extra G1 parts like guns, first, etc. usually ended up on the floor or on the shelves. I remember my cat at the time used to pick up some of the smaller MASK figures and carry them off to chew on or God knows what so it would not surprise me if she spirited away some of those extra G1 parts too. But not to entirely blame my cat, I probably lost a good part of those extra parts myself as well.
We're building an addition currently to my house for our Chinchillas and my TF collection. I will paint and place everything in the room about 3 feet high as they will chew (they've only ever chewed on soft plastic/rubber). Better safe than sorry.
wow. i can in here expecting pets vs toys in general, not just chewing....i have been very lucky in that case. my pets have always been perfect angels. never bit toys, never "go" in the wrong spots, never scratch stuff up, nothing. the *worst thing thats ever happened was my current cat rubs against my brother's giant boba fett figure and he falls. we have him at floor level so he can hold the xbox controller plug for us, so no biggey! *unless you count the time i was sleeping at night and shadow starts mewling extremely loud because he wants someone near him when he's eating.....ironic, a black cat named shadow is afraid of the dark.
We have a delightful little mongrel, German Shepherd/Labrador mix. The most loving and needy dog in all the world. And the beast LOVES plastic. And wood. And metal. He may actually be mixed with goat. Anyway, he has claimed two of my Transformers - a HftD Breacher, and a Classics Shattered Glass Optimus Prime. I found fully identifiable pieces of SG Optimus, but what that monster did to Breacher... I did not kill the dog, I've simply started displaying figures higher and storing in plastic tubs. The plastic tubs do not really attract his attention. Too big for a meal, I guess.
I think my two Cats are more of a threat to my Marvel Legends then my Transformers. Cause my Shattered Glass shelf is on the bottom of my bookshelf one of my cats do like rubbing herself against the figures and knocking them over. But when you have a cat that likes to jump on your dresser, where you display your Marvel Legends then you occasionally have a few laying on the floor. Heck since getting the new Falcon figure they occasionally want to bite on his wings.
Only ever had one of my transformers chewed up by my dog... the small Classics tank minicon that came as one of the pack-ins with Cybertron Primus. She was teething at the time, and I made the mistake of leaving it out on the floor where she could get to it, so it was entirely my fault. Outside of that, no issues. I've never had a dog that likes to chew on things aside from when they're teething as a puppy. Quite frankly, if I leave my toys where an animal could chew them up, I probably deserve to have it happen- just kinda one of those rites of passage you have as a pet owner.
My cat chews on figures if I'm not too careful about where I leave them. Just a couple tooth marks though. I was more pissed off when he chewed on my old pair of glasses and my tablet. Dude also loves to chew on my brake/ shift cable ends on my bike. Then I have to re-cable, but I worry more about his teeth :/
I'm lucky enough to have two cats who don't seem to be bothered about chewing or licking toys. Do cats want to chew on plastic anyway? They do however suffer from not being able to sit still, ever. Anything out of bounds or new they need to explore and knock things over. So yeah. I would imagine not leaving around small weapons or these days Headmasters lying around!
Had a cat years ago that would steal small toys/accessories off the low shelves to play with. Just had to learn to keep the door to the toy room closed. Current cat is not impressed with/interested in my toys and, amazingly, is not a climber. She does occasionally want to sniff at new things - I suppose that Chinese sweatshop smell is unique and interesting. We get along with each other very well.
Our first dog liked breaking into my room and making off with my stuff. Believe I lost N.E.S.T. Brawn to him, and a few others, but that one hurt the most. Our second dog is an outside dog, so he hasn't even had the chance to come into my room
My cat will try and chew on almost anything eye level with her or lower, which has ruined many a wire. Thankfully, she pretty much won't get on any shelves if there's anything on them, so my Transformers have been safe. Well, except for my Masterpiece Grimlock that I used to keep on a ground level shelf until I noticed her try to nibble on it once. Put it up higher and there hasn't been a problem since.
