In your opinion, what was Peter Cullen's best performance as Optimus Prime? Personally, I think he really shined in Dark of the Moon. He put so much emotion into it. I could tell when he was angry, sad, shocked, etc. He was also great in the other movies. G1 was alright. However, as much as I love Prime (the show), I will admit that Optimus does sound boring and emotionless most of the time. Anyway, what do you think was Peter Cullen's best performance?

YA I agree G1 was okay, but there wasn't as much emotion as DOTM

Like everyone else has been saying, he was at his best in Dark of the Moon. Optimus was actually human (in terms of his emotions). He was so full of emotion: grief, hurt, surprise and fear (when Sentinel first attacked him after waking up), guilt, sorrow, and most of all, fury.

His Washington and Cape Canaveral scenes were nigh-perfect: at the Mall, you could tell that Sentinel's betrayal and Ironhide's death had ripped his heart out, and his remorse, that he didn't see it coming, was painful. His rage needs no introduction: his "We will kill them all" and "Get down here, Sentinel!" lines are perfect examples. Can you imagine TFP Optimus giving that kind of performance? I didn't think so.

    Dark of the Moon.

TFP is my least favorite performance. Good god man, let him cut the "epic" monotone speech voice every once in a while.

Or entirely. Heck, just rewrite TFP Optimus entirely.

    Eeyore! :p  Kidding.

As Optimus? Definitely Bayformers (more specifically, DotM, he had a great range of emotion), followed by G1 (the young sound is cool) and then TFP in last place*. He just needs to "loosen" his tone a bit in TFP. I like the epicness of his voice, but he needs to change it up.

I agree with everyone else so far, DotM. You can hear the emotion in his voice. You might not like the movies, but there is a reason "And the Fandom Rejoiced" used to be called "Cue Cullen".

I'm gonna say G1. He didn't sound so strained, like it was taking every bit of energy to say his lines. He sounded more like John Wayne back then than the "hey, isn't that the movie promo guy with a really sore throat?" like he was in the Bay movies.

I love Cullen. But he's starting to lose it.

The Movies & Prime. Heck Let him voice the Anti-Monitor for DC, it would be perfect.

TFTM 1986. Hands down. That purposeful "One shall stand, one shall fall"? That menacing "That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron"? That agonized yet determined "Never!" as he strikes Megatron off the side of the building? Chills.

Oh, it's G1 for me, no question. I much prefer his softer, younger voice. He sounds like a guy you'd actually want to hang out with, instead of a constant harbinger of doom and depression. DOTM is certainly his best out of the three movies, though.

G1 definately, it seemed effortless back then as oppsed to what you hear today which sounds more contrived and almost forced in some instances.

And in particular the G1 film. I don't actually remember him saying a thing in dotm, yet the lines from '86 send chills down my spine just reading them!
