I don't care a single bit about Volcanicus...

...But, this is amazing, almost like something it would be sold off just as a stand alone set.

Putting the combiner ports on the sides instead of the back of the elbows will keep the arms in tighter for combined mode, which is probably my biggest gripe with the stock version. I'm all in on this set, the only change planned so far is to repaint the toes a satin gold.

The Takara dinobots are up on preorder on Anime Export, and these upgrades make Volcanicus worthy of my combiner shelf, but the thing that you have to break apart Grimlock to install the new parts scares me. I definitely need more info on the matter.

I certainly don't think you're going to have to "break" Grimlock to put these on.

    Ebay:
Or they'll change it before release. Gold does make more sense. Wouldn't be the first time fan demand made a color change. Either way a couple coats of paint will work

I've read, from someone here who has taken it apart to mod/paint, that the legs screw together but there are two posts inside that are glued and will have to be broken to take apart, like Defensor/Hotspot.

Saw the prices today...have they went insane? They want $45 for the Dino set without the hands and feet (an extra $35) What kind of crack are they smoking? The entire G2 menasor set with feet and all cost $60 which was a bit much but at least fair. PE learned nothing from the barrage of KO sets that hit the market when CW was out. I ended up buying several KO sets of feet for $12.99 on ebay which were the same quality as the originals I had bought for the first 3 combiners. I think they did KO menasor diapers too, buy way after I bought the originals. I wont make the same mistake this time.

Painting a Dinobot's toenails any color will never be not weird to me.

I just grabbed my Grimlock to look at him and the lower arms are on mushroom pegs and the upper thighs are held in with screws.

It will be a very simple procedure so uhhh why would anyone be afraid of breaking him?

From a modder around here, he said when he took his apart, he had to break two pegs in there cause even, though they used screws, they glued to pegs in there like they did with Hotspot.

Because it was said there there are parts glued together. I don't have Grimlock so I can't check, if you say that the forearms and thighs can be removed in a safe way I feel relieved.

I think I will get both Volcanicus sets. for varying reasons, while I feel that the hasbro Combiner parts are an improvement from the CW hand-o-feet parts, they still leave something to be desired. This, plus... well tbh that sword is pretty bad ass, and I appreciate the fact that it splits into so many weapons. Plus, well, Grimlock's torso isn't -bad- per se, but it definitely needed more body to it. This fulfills that need without necessarily gimping his leg articulation (like what happened with the menasor diaper, though tbh I still liked that set even with that)

the toes do not bother me, a metallic gold pen will make a quick remedy to it if I should so desire.

I don't plan on getting the starscream set because... well, PotP starscream is kinda crap. At least IMO. Grimlock I'm willing to give a chance, he has enough pros to potentially outweigh his cons, but Starscream is just mostly 'cons. No pun intended.

What is all this talk about a 2nd set? Is there another version of Volcanicus being released? As far as I know, isn't the Takara version supposed to be the exact same?

As both are owned by Takara Tomy, I'm surprised this hasn't officially happened. However, there IS at least one 3P/KO Zoidformer:

    Oh damn.

Well, someone needs to sacrifice a Grimmy and let us know if it's worth it.

Thighs are easy. Two screws per, no glue.

Arms are glued on mine. Removed both screws and applied light force trying to pry the two pieces apart and nothing moved.
