And yet, here we are discussing an official Dinobot Combiner.

BBTS put PC-23 up for preorder - $44.99. Cheaper than I thought it would be to be honest.

So it's what, $80 total for the full slate of Volcanicus parts?

Oh, that is nice. It all just flows together.
Makes me desperately wish Hasbro or even PE thought to color match the hands and feet to their most common color. Hell; knowing PE they will release one when sales of this slowdown.

Didn't a lot of people consider the TW Dinobot combiner a mess too?

Some designs just aren't conducive to combining, the Dinobots may be that way as well. At the very least I like the massive sword for combined mode, and the kit that makes Grimmy taller/beefier is worth looking at.

I still want a set of guns and swords (and missiles!) for the POTP Dinobots. Paging Dr. Wu...

Frankly, it's only that because all attempts on making a dinobot combiner insisted on making Grimlock to be the torso instead of the more logical Sludge, resulting in the common issue of giant Grimlocks & tiny Sludges.

Personally though, TW's ain't that bad, and the issues I had with it was mainly the crappy connections they used for the legs and ankles which means crappy stability.

Also, anyone knows what the hell happened to the MPT-01 combiner? From the looks of that thread it doesn't seem like anyone got that set(or even knows if it was actually released!)

Yup. Not amazing, but honestly a better value than most of PE PC kits. I mean, I've bought them all, so I might be a fool, but this is probably the best kit they've put out on a dollar to donuts basis.

That Menasor set completely changed the combiner for me. He is now one of the most striking CW/UW sets out there IMO. The torso was incredibly tiny without the set and while it sucks to lose some articulation, the benefits outweigh the detriments. The head sculpt is so much better too. On the rare occasion I break the set down, I just take off the added bits. No need to worry about kibble that way.

I'm guessing Hasbro (and Takara) are banking on a giant robot T-Rex being more marketable at the Voyager price point than a brontosaur.

Not to mention Grimlock is the leader...who's traditionally been the combiner torso.

Traditionally they were not even a combiner team :p  Prior to Volcanicus, officially we only had power core combiner Grimstone/Kakkuryu, a styracosaur as the leader of his team.

Yeah, but when it is decided that dinobots must combine, the fact that Grimlock is by far the most iconic character and their leader trumps any consideration related to dinosaur scale.

Grimlock wouldn't be part of any combiner he wasn't the torso of.

I think Grimlock as the upper torso/head, Sludge as the lower torso/legs, Snarl and Slag as arms and Swoop as a backpack/wings or even the head/backpack/wings would work well and allow for Grimlocke and Sludge to be the largest.

Preordered it this morning from BBTS, but I'm keeping an eye out for any other 3rd party options. I'd like to see a full on frontal shot without the PotP hands at the waist. IMO it makes the figure to chunky. I'd rather have a Rob Liefeld chest, then see if a fanmode for Slash can fill in the Hank Hill butt.

so i preordered but i still have concerns...

someone earlier in this thread said their grimlock's forearms (that you'd have to replace) are glued together on top of being screwed in and looking at my grimlock the thighs are held together by screws as well.

in theory the swap is simple but i'm not sure how pleased i am if both thighs and forearms are glued together as well and i'm not confident enough to start trying to pull my grimlock apart to figure this out....anyone brave enough? or already did it? confirmation on glue?

Both Devastator and Dinoking had a leg as the leader of the team.

I agree its time to abolish the whole "Me Grimlock leader so me biggest" concept. Third parties started it. And even the 2 sets of non-MP scale Dinobots that dont conbine suffer from an oversized T-Rex. Sludge would be the logical choice as the torso because he is the backbone and muscle of the team.

Okay, this set is cool, but it sure as hell isn't $45 bucks cool. Call me if the sword comes out separately at $20 or less, otherwise I'm not buying. I know 3rd party stuff is more expensive by necessity, but this is a bit ridiculous.
