Next item up for grabs is a set of custom designed MP08X oversize Grimlock hand adapters.

These adapters allow you to remove the generic set of hands and will give you the ability to install a set of KFC's KP08D black articulated Magnus hands to use with your oversize Grimlock. The kit also includes adapters for the new hands that allow you to use both of his weapons. The figure still transforms as normal with the new hand configuration.

The kit includes an adapter for his left hand and right hand (they are both different sizes) as well as a left and right hand weapon adapter.

As all hands are different, slight tweaking may be necessary to get perfect fitment. I tested on different sets and each was a tiny bit different... so as with any of this custom work, you should know that a little futzing may be necessary... especially w/ the KFC hands as you all know! Some are loose, some are tight... Great QC!! But it is what it is and what we've come to expect from these KFC hands.

Installation is pretty straight forward... just remove the 3 screws to separate the arms as shown below. The wrist adapter comes out. Remove the single screw holding the adapter together and it will separate allowing you to remove the old hand. Simply insert the new peg adapter... rotate it or tweak it to fit just right, and screw it all back together. Carefully pop on the new hands... Done.

*One thing to note... as I'm sure you are aware, you will loose the light up gimmick on the hand as the LED configuration is set up for the generic hand and is not usable with the new hand. You'll need to trim the LED off. Easily reversible if you decide to go back to stock and attach the led back on the wires.

both the toon version and comic version will use the same parts as shown above in the 1st picture. the arm adapters are not visible once installed. and the black hands are what you'd use for both versions.

 

Do you think spray painting/priming/finishing the hands and adapters blue on our own is a good idea or will the paint rub off?

 

Ohhhh i see what you guys are referring to now... the comic version has blue hands...

Well the KFC hands only come in white and black... so if you were looking for blue, you'd have to source some color matching paint. My first design was for a client that had the original and the stock hands were blue... but he wanted black. But at the time they only had the white magnus hands so he had them painted black. They seemed to hold up decent enough with the black paint... so if you'd source some similar blue in enamel, i'm sure it would hold up w/ normal use.

Yup I have several different machines. My MPP10 hands were done with my resin machine, these were done with my FDM machine.

Yeah the articulated hands make a big difference in looks... Especially on these big figures.

Will those black hands look rather odd on the comic version Grimlock or will it not matter?

 

It's really a personal choice. I don't think it looks bad but that's just me. Your best bet would be to Photoshop them in black real quick to see how they look.

 

I've got pics up in the main thread of the finished product. It's awesome, if anyone's thinking of doing it, go for it.
