Not sticks, USB SSD drives, get with the times man. I have terrabytes of video for work backed up. Discs are completely out of the question, even 10 years ago.

    SSD drives too, man.

If you think that a modern drive can't be stuffed full in no time if you're doing anything involving 2d or 3d, them I'm sorry.

Unless you're concerned with charts and documents only, those can be stored anywhere.

It's always good to have backups in a format than can be just stored anywhere.

I have a BD writer on my PC, but I can’t use it to realistically backup my data drives. My photo collection at last check was around 2TB. I moved it to a NAS and backed it up to an external SSD, too. A BD solution may just about work for a single holiday’s worth of photos (I shoot in RAW and have been known to take ca. 10,000 in a week, almost all of which are kept), but even that’s questionable.

I assumed he meant a USB DVD/BRD burner.

I just want to point out, that a toy for gaming is exactly what he wanted to do with the computer, and not working. Seems very irrelevant. Plus, I think USB backup drives are good enough for what most people use their computers for. We're gaming, and possibly doing casual work on it. We're not building the empire state building 2 with it. We don't need the best method of backup storage here.

I have a 6TB usb drive for backing up games on. It works just fine for everything I need it for.

    For turned-based strategy aficionados:
    Civilization series
    X-Com series

Civilization is especially engrossing; empire building is the ultimate escapism.

    For strategy fans:
    Company of Heroes
Dawn of War; specifically referring to the first game in the series, Dawn of war 2 and 3 differ too much from the original's formula.
