I think I'll be sticking with local buying selling from now on, just sold some toys for $130 shipped. After getting the funds and transfering the money to my bank account, Paypal is actually only sending me $116 and a bit after all the fees. Add to that, that I told the dude I would split him on the shipping to Singapore which is gonna be about $50 bucks, so I'm actually out the $20 for shipping (my own gesture) and now $14 from paypal. nice! thanks! won't be using that anymore.
Was this through Ebay or something? Because, just a normal paypal transaction is like 4%+56 cents or something. That doesn't add up for a regular goods payment.
it is worst if it is through ebay. Ebay now charges a listing fee + 9% of final sales price + paypal 4% fee. I sold my iphone on ebay for about 330 and ended up with about 280-290 after all fee
That's the problem with eBay and Paypal, you are using a commercial service and these companies have to make money somehow. Of course they're going to take a cut out of your sales, that's how it works.
Indeed. 'Buyer protection' isn't actually about protecting the buyer, it's about sacrificing the seller to protect the buyer thereby creating the illusion that eBay aren't milking the lack of an alternative for everything it's worth. And who cares about the seller? If you're selling on eBay, then you must be shady and/or making a mint. This online selling stuff is so easy....obviously.
If I buy something from someone from TFW I just send payment as gift. I'm paying you for your figure, not PayPal.
This works great with reputable seller but sucks with scammer. Especially on other forum like Rangerboard. I'm a member over there and hear about no item received all the time since the forum is mostly with kids sending via gift to people who take advantage of it.
I don't encourage sending a gift to anyone ever. Just take 3 seconds of your time to get out the calculator on your computer and figure out what 4% of something is. It seems like everytime a big scam happens on these boards, it's, "But he had 100% positive feedback". You're just setting yourself up for a possible disaster if anyone decides to fuck you over. Also, the analogy was brought up of, "I'm paying the buyer, not paypal."... what? You still pay the fees for gift, they just stack it on top of what you're paying for the total. The actual analogy of paying with gift is... are you giving this person the money as a gift? If not, then why do it? You're not giving that person money just because. You're giving them money for a specific item, and you should do it properly in a manner that protects your purchase choice. Either way, you're paying the fee.
There are fees with a PayPal gift. They are minimal, but they are there. I've sent enough to know better. You want a screen capture to prove it??
I can also vouch on fees being there for a gift payment. Very small percentage compared to a normal payment, but it's still there.
You guys sure fee are stacked on gift? It shows as the price I sent if paid by Instant Transfer from bank. If I pay by CC/Debit it does have a fee stacked on though. Also I thought paypal fee was 3%? This is how much I lost when I sell items
I have never seen it, and can't go back far enough to check on my last payment, but I Googled and believe you now. It's just that I haven't seen it. At least it's me that pays the fee and not the person receiving the money. That's what I don't like.

Yes. There are fees for paypal gift. If there were not fees, there would have been no reason for me to have said it. You see them on the screen before you submit the payment with the total amount. Also, paypal fees were 3% but they raised. As said, just take the seconds to pull out a calculator, figure out the fees, and add them to your payment.
I don't like that people are increasingly demanding to receive payment via gift option. While I understand they are doing that to not get raped by high PayPal fees, this leaves the buyer with no protection whatsoever in case of a scam. We live in expensive times
