Called "The Dweller in the Depths".

Can you believe one of the best writers in animation wrote an episode? how amazing is that.

Is it though? Seems like pretty typical season 3 stuff.

That's true, but... season 3 wasn't hurting for monster stories. There was Zombie Prime, the monster story with Kup, and arguably the better Hate Plague zombie story.

I'll see your Paul Dini and raise you a Len Wein, who wrote for G1 and Beast Wars and RID15 and co-created that one comic book character, what was his name, oh yeah, Wolverine.

It is a shame Sunbow weren't able to hire him that much. He did the one episode of G.I Joe early in the run, during Spring 1984. Then they didn't have him back for anything until Dweller, which was two years later.

He would return for one last script in 1987: the Jem episode Music Is Magic. Where his well-known fixation with Zatanna was clearly on display.

I have to respectfully disagree. The awful, grating voices of the human villains and the poor animation, lazily colouring those infected all red made it one of the worst episodes to me.

To say nothing of the false advertising of the Return of Optimus Prime video. It used the 1988 box art featuring Powermaster Optimus Prime and the Pretenders.

I waited years to see it and was woefully disappointed with the abysmal 2-part cartoon though at least they improved the animation in the second episode.

Not until 9 years after. It wouldn't have mattered if I'd seen it as a child, I still wouldn't have liked it.
