How does this mofo get a job? Isn't the ability to draw people a requirement in the industry? :grumble: stupid pat lee ruining batman and spider-man! :grumble:
He's just another in a growing list of comic artists that seem to get hot because of hype and slick marketing instead of talent. Rob Leifield is on the top of that list by the way.
Its true, I reread X-Force #1 today and couldn't believe the proportions. Like for example, how Cable's thighs were like 5x the size of his head. Course that's the same for most of the characters. 'Cept maybe Stryfe who seemed kinda "normal looking"
I think the fact that Pat Lee started out as a fill monkey for Leifeld's studio pretty much says it all about his (lack of) drawing ability.
It's clearly not a Liefeld drawing. It has feet. Liefeld has a severe allergic reaction to drawing feet.
Not to divert the topic even moreso to Liefeld, but here's some funny commentary from Something Awful's Fashion SWAT: Shatterstar and X-Force
I actually like Liefeld's work, and I think Pat Lee is good drawing Transformers...but his humans (especially the heads) leave something to be desired.
his art was decent at the beginning, like the first issues and posters that came out...then he got lazy... and agreed with the faces...it looks like a 12 year old drew them...
I didn't know he had ties with Leifeld. That's classic. Anyway, Leifeld's art is more of a style. I mean, you can't deny he does put detail into his characters, the problem with leifeld comics is that the whole "Rippling with muscles and posed like they're about to dodge a rocket" doesn't work in every single situation, which Leifeld seems to be convinced of. There isn't a character drawn by leifeld that looks comfortable or relaxed even in the most leisurely environment. He makes a good cover artist, but asking him to draw a comic consistantly panel by panel is asking for a disaster. Lee on the other hand, sure he can draw robots. Humans? Especially their faces... I've had art teachers in HIGH SCHOOL that would flunk me for drawing even remotely as bad as Lee does. Body proportions, despite being all out of whack, is a bit excuseable, but the features on Lee's characters always look like they're sliding of the side of the character's face. He can't get proportions or dimensions of a head right to save his life.
People can say what they will about Liefeld but he's one of the damn nicest guys I've ever met. And I love my Domino drawing he did. But yes, I have heard the "allergic to feet" thing before. And it was true until about a year ago. He actually has gotten better and drew Cable without shoes in X-Force 1
I don't mind Lee's take on robots, but I agree his depiction of people is rather lacking. Though, all in all, I object mainly to his name because I think he has no sense of business or the idea of HUMAN ETHICS--basically, that there are moral consequences to his deceitful actions. Oh and I like Liefield as well. His style reminds me of the old-school Image days of drawing, though I haven't picked up any of his recent Teen Titan work yet...
i like lee's robots, at least the covers. i just think the person behind the art is a jerk. when i hear abt how alan moore shares his compensation with fellow creators it just blows the mind of how the other end of the spectrum can be so much better.
I agree... and suprisingly, if you compare Liefeld's newer art to his old, he has improved... although if you just don't like it, that's still not saying much...
To be honest, I did think the art was better in that issue and really liked it. To bad that was only one I bought.
